Yesterday I was patrolling the celebes sea with my Salmon sub, suddenly I found a large taskforce incoming from south, I've only 4 bow torpedo and 4 aft torpedo left so I think to hide until the convoy arrives. I thought to riso to periscope depth and launch the four bow torpedoes to the first ship I noticed, because I feared to be discovered (the task force was composed by circa 6 battleships, several destroyers and other various boats).
So, when the sonar contacts inform that I was in the middle of the taskforce, I went to periscope depth and launch the 4 torpedoes to the first ship I noticed....
I HIT THE YAMATO!!!!!
What a lucky shot! all the four torpedoes hit the hull immobilizing the battleship, but not sunking it.
I await until all the other ships of the taskforce go away, then I turn 180° and launch the other four aft torpedoes, sinking the ship!
I was very very lucky!

Only one question... can this happen in history that a ship like Yamato was abandoned by all the others?

I think it has happened, although most of the time I believe the usual action was to have them abandon the ship and then scuttle it, if they think they can't get it safely back to port. During the Atlantic convoys, I think crippled ships were regularly abandoned, because it was critical the cargo get through and they couldn't wait or risk other ships by waiting.

I don't think it would happen with a captial ship of any sort. While there is plenty of footage of the sinking US carriers, I don't think there is any recorded history of capital ships being abandoned by their escorts.

Although I have sunk the Yamato in the exact same circumstances in SH1 :)

I don't think the Bismark's demise counts, as it was never really abandoned as much as sent out alone :)

Only one question... can this happen in history that a ship like Yamato was abandoned by all the others?

I very seriously doubt it. Even if she was dead in the water they would have done there damdist to tow the valuable asset back somehow.

I also doubt that a measly 4 torpedoes would bring her down as well.

In real life she ran from her first real large scale encounter convinced she was up against the US main task force and decided to "protect the asset". Jury is still out on wether or not she pussied out. It turned out she was up against minor patrol groups.

Later in her life she went down but it took no less than 12 mark 14's and around 20 1,000 bombs and those were just the ones that hit. Even then she did not "sink" tough she was dead in the water, laying on her side. Her construction was quite ingenious with many many seperated water tight compartments designed to halt flooding.

It was only when her powder magazine exploded she went to the bottom.

But were playing a game so have fun and blow stuff up ! Besides they have more where she came from (shrug) :up:
