Using GWX, hunted down a contact report that indicated a submarine north of Lerwick sub base. found nothing, thought to submerge and try to make a sound contact... found myself right on top of a stationary Type VII U-boat submerged to about 50 meters or so.
I have been running into this contact on almost every patrol... what purpose does this guy serve??

Let me guess.
its a captured u boat used by british for covert operations.
Report inmediatelly to bdu and change Enigma codes !! :rotfl:
Now seriosly, it could be a campaign easter egg or a mistake :yep:

Hmmm...so he is one of ours? I too have seen the contact, but always thought he would be a limey.

yup one of ours, i was hunting him down but turned out to be a type VII at about 50 meters depth, not moving but i could hear the SHHHHH of wake around his bow thats the only way i found him.
He seems to move around with the current i guess, but for the several minutes i watched him he didnt budge.

i should tell you though the contact report moves as if he is moving, after spending the better part of a day chasing this phantom contact i closed to within visual range (using external camera since he was underwater) and he was more or less just adrift with screws stopped... i watched him for several minutes and he did nothing really.
Does he serve some purpose? or is that just something that people can find out there?
