There has been many posts here complaining about this and that bug keys not working, strange maps, paper thin crew, bug eyes etc etc etc.

99% of which were eventually attributed to using a crack.

You have been warned.

A no CD (or in this case DVD) patch is not the same as illegaly copying the game. Myself I always prefer to run games via Deamon Tools or similar. It have several benefits doing it that way.

First off you do not need to have the original media in the optical disk all the time you want to play a game. I have had DVDs actually disintegrate in my drive before from extended use. It was not pretty...

And it cost me shelling out for a new DVD player/recorder.

Secondly, keeping an original image on HD loads a game way faster, and keep the original safely in its cover on the shelf where it belongs.

I've run various work-arounds for my purchased games since CDs were introduced. CDs and DVDs are not a viable long term storage medium when used often. It's just the nature of the material used. They get brittle from dry warm enviroment as is typical inside PCs.

In short I want a little crack that allows a mini-image to be recognized as a legit copy. Like in BF42, BFV and BF2. It saves a lot of usage on original media, and also as long as some online verification is needed, has zero chance of being a pirate tool.

well I too use No-DVDs or mini-images with my games I bought. Its because I dont wanna play one game for weeks and then shelf it..no..i currently play SH4, Neverwinters Nights 2, Sword of the stars, BF2142 and some other games if my work shifts and family allows it.
I just dont wanna swap DVDs all the time so a Fixed exe or mini-Image is my way to go. Perservation of my original DVDs is also a point.

Dont associate no-DVD user = lame-ass Downloader thank you very much

Well said Engel, and I agree completly with your last statement.

And as for my credibility, SteamWake and Kakemann, I'm a grown man, and a contributing member of the norwegian BF community from day one. I enjoy and pay for the games I play. As is evident from my record in various FPS clans (or my entire online experience. Just google "Zylark"). Also here I do not disguise the fact that I'm running an original version of the game, seeing as I'm patching and modding to find a config that suits me. Something not possible if I was running an illegal copy.

Mini image is a convenience, not a piracy tool.

Kid's can be so rough on your Game Disks.
An I too have a Legitimate copy of the original game, but then again Ubi has always had issues with their Multiplay portion of these sub games.

Even Microsoft enables you to enter an authentication code.

Could you imagine running a machine with the OSdisk still in the machine?
:rotfl:Not bloody likely...

I'd rather save my original media disc. Hopefully Ubi and other companies will develope a way to do this.

Just kidding man....
Anyhow, downloaded pirated version DOES NOT provide you with unique multiplay cd-key or recognition manual, or user guide [except pdf...] or MAP....
If it weren't for elanaiba aka Dan from Romania, I would't know that....
Some things are just precious and worth the money....:|\\

You could always go the Direct2Drive route and not worry about CD's at all.

To answer an earlier question, Sword of the Stars is quite cool, although hearing your men scream when Hivers shred your destroyer screen can be a little...unsettleing.

In around about way i'm glad this was brought up. I have the "Bonus Materials" version. Iv'e installed SH-4 3 times
and have never had to install the key code like in SH-3.

What's up with this ?

AVGWarhawk

I believe it asks for keycode when you attempt online play.

Let's turn this into another type of "put the DVD in the drive" discussion.

I've never seen the bonus DVD included with the game, as everytime I put it in the drive, I get a "Windows has encountered an error..." blah blah message.

I heard it's pretty short. I'm not missing a lot, I take it?

Im closer to the little sub-base the Jerries had here on the west coast. I believe it is still operational, but now we got subs named after stupid fish. Diesels though, that gotta count for something... :D

CD's yes it was fairly common.

The industry adapted with better materials for DVD's. Although it does still happen it is extremely rare and usually when the DVD was damaged to begin with.

If cost for the player has any impact (and I believe it will), HD-DVD will likely win:

HD-DVD player: $299
Blu-Ray player: $699
