I am on my 18th patrol ( Playing till the end by reloading, not DEAD IS DEAD ) And every single mission almost half the time its so stormy and rainy..

I don't get it, was it really this bad almost 50% of the time?? What kind of weather system is this? I wouldn't mind all that if I had unlimited fuel, but also heavy fog is almost always there and I cannot do anything.. I track a convoy only to find out when I am there, HEAVY FOG!!
It gets annoying sometimes. :(

SH3's weather system.

Yes the weather was very bad in the North Sea & Atlantic but it's no where near as bad as SH3 makes it out to be.

Without going into the dynamics of the weather engine. You need to know that there is a random chance (based on a %) of the weather changing dramatically every 48hrs (IIRC). Also, if you save & reload while in good or bad weather, that weather is there to stay for at least another 48hrs, as the 'timer' resets itself.

There is always the 'SH3 Weather' Mod, I don't use it myself but many swear by it, although, IIRC there is one particular 'bug' which surfaces now & again. I'm not sure of the specifics though.

The weather in SH3 is one of the 'great untouched' areas due to the need for a SDK.

I've been fairly pleased with SH3 Weather myself. The bug I think that you're thinking of is that if you save a game with a current wind speed of zero when you reload your boat goes to the bottom like a brick. the simple fix is to manually edit the weather.cfg (I think) file and change the wind speed to a positive value. There's a thread here somewhere that details how to do that.

I don't mind the weather at all, pretty calm under water.........

I'm fairly new to SH3 Weather. Love it. The stock weather is awful.

Every patrol:

First day or two out of port - Perfect Weather

The entire patrol after that - Stormy

Though, sometimes infuriating, I find the weather realistic for the North sea and North Atlantic. :shifty:

Whenever storms come around I just dive to 20 meters and surface every 6 hours to check for new weather and (if nessessary) replenish air supplies.

No, I don't have infinite O2 active, It's gotta refill sometimes, that and all my infinite range options disabled.

Well, we'll see you back in base in three months or so...

I don't mind the wind and rain, but the fog is really annoying.
But it's also challenging to sink ships in fog using sonar and hydrophone.

actualy for me the only real problem is the possibility to have fog AND rain which is so stupid that I can express it

Atlantic south of spain is a lot cleaner than the hunting ground west of england. I enjoy type IX career for that, seas are much smoother where we are patroling with type IX :)

IMO the weather (especially in the winter months) is not too far away from reality....I tend to submerge at 'ahead slow' and surface on occassion to check for any improvement :arrgh!:

A storm was so bad once for me that a warship was looking for me, because I dropped to 10m depth on occasion, and could hear me then. On the surface you couldnt see anything. The DD must have been doing circles around me. I wish I could have gotten him with a torp.

This never fails for me. If I have good weather and It suddenly turns bad, I can count on finding a convoy.:o I have learned to ALWAYS expect a convoy in a storm.:D

the most stupidest thing in this game is the fact that in heavy storm's with HEAVY FOG, A destroyer still seems to find me while on the surface, and its in 1940

After re-starting many patrols due to the Zero Windspeed bug I finally found the post about that weather bug and learned to edit the appropriate campaign files. The was the end of that nonsense! The search function really does work!

With limited time to "enjoy" this sim due to RL, you really have to custom tailor it to ones needs. I really like to "play" in rough seas but I also like to see the weather change. I also need to save a lot since I only play for 1-2 hours at a time. I am happy now!

:hmm: Remember this. The enemy has sonar and radar too and they do use it. This is not an arcade game. Just when you think you have it all figured out..... the AI changes the rules of engagement. ;) After all, they're out to get you, just as you're out to get them. He who strikes first wins...usually. LOL GWX does this all to well to make it as close to real as possible with what SHIII is capable of, with the limitations it has.

Not meant to poke fun at you FastFed, but only to make you aware that any form of SHIII is not perfect. ;)

i think most of here know that the enemy has radar and sonar but what they DIDNT have was radar in 1940 if in fact this is how those dd's found him.
