View Full Version : No Depth Charge blast sound?

I've been damaged/sunk a few time now by DC attacks and yet the first indication I get is flashing lights and flooding in the Control Room. Does anyone get the sound of DC's exploding near by with consequent shaking of the boat?

When you're submerged and actively listening to sonar...you'll know what they are when you hear them.

Thanks chaps, so can you only hear them on Sonar? I'd have though they'd be pretty loud anywhere in the sub. Not to mention a bit of shake, rattle and roll with a near miss:o

Yes you can hear them pretty much anywhere if there close.
No the ship does not shake. There is a mod for that if you so desire.
It sounds to me like your sound card is dropping some channels or your settings in sound config are goofed up.
Depth charges are broken for me. They roll off the DDs but nothing happens and no cans visible in the water.

There are quite a few sounds that are very hard to hear for me too. My card is an older SB 512 PCI. It does not do 3D sounds very well I guess.
I found a fix for it though you lose the 3D effect. I changed a funny file in the Sound folder called sh.sdl open in hex editor and find your sound file name. Then set the sound attribute from 3D at 1 to a 0. Now the position data will not affect it. Much louder.
You can also maybe fix the backward sounds of the control room engines from front to back, destroyer stereo sound from left to right backwards, etc by changing the distant radius, sound postion data, volume level, etc.
It could stand having a tweak file made for it; too bad Nvdrifter quit.
By following his hard work, one could give it a try. I think the sounds are contolled by that file. Maybe even trigger reference numbers. I would like to hear the 'Taking Damage' and 'Diving to deep' to accur where they make more sense. Also to hear the water pipe breaking and steam sound play (they are silent).
