Some friends of mine came into town last night and we got completely wasted and watched movies... one of the movies was "Beerfest".
Basic story line is a couple of American's go to Germany to spread their Grandfather's ashes at Octoberfest. Not being well travelled these Americans basically ruin octoberfest by accident and a mob ends up chasing them. A german man helps them escape to a secret underground type of international octoberfest called "beerfest" where representative teams from all of the nations meet and compete in drinking games. After getting their butts kicked and having the honor of their grandfathers name insulted by a distant relative and owner of the largest brewery in Germany played by none other than actor JURGEN PROCHNOW they go back to the USA and form a dream team of old college drinking buddies (played by the guys from Super Troopers) who spend a year in olympic style beer drinking games training every day so they can return to next year's beerfest and beat the Germans at their own drinking games thereby defending the family name and reclaiming the rights to the brewery.
why am i telling you this in the SH3 thread?
one, this movie is really funny especially if you are doing shots with your best friend in the whole world.
two, in respect to Jurgen Prochnow's previous role as Kaleun Henrich Lehmann-Willenbrock in the movie Das Boot, the movie Beerfest has A LOT of Das Boot references in it.
a couple of examples...
the Germans have a drinking game that only they know the secret to winning it. The game is called "Das Boot" You line up your entire drinking team at the side of the table opposite the German Drinking team. at one end of the table is your slowest drinker... and at the other end is your champion. it works kind of like a beer chugging relay race... the next team member can only start chugging when the previous team mamber finishes. The best drinkers on the end of the table drink out of Giant Boot shaped mugs called "Das Boot" and during the entire match the crowd chants "Das Boot!! Das Boot!! Das Boot!!" under the watchful eye of Jurgen Prochnow.
Another scene of the movie has the German team trying to infiltrate the sea-side base of operations of the American Team to sabotage their training efforts. They do this by sneaking to shore in a U-boat. Jurgen Prochnow is the commander of the boat and at one time he says something like "Ok lets get out of this damned U-boat, my chlostrophobia is coming back... I had a bad experience in one of these things once before."
Just thought i would mention the movie to you guys who havnt seen it yet. :cool:
