After some recent patrols and nasty encounters with convoy escorts, U-95 & crew were feeling a bit low and the confidence was a bit shaken. After hunting a few lone merchants on the Western Approaches, we soon realised this was not going to suffice. Kaluen Rb4door decided the only way to get the confidence back up to speed was to face up to the demons themselves - the escorts!
Leaving St Naz, U-95 of the 7th/13th Flotilla - BdU directed us to patrol DH48.
We never made it to that patrol grid - but for good reasons!
Passing BE96 a message was received. Convoy reported BE98 heading SSE - speed 5 knots!
I knew our primary objective was to patrol our grid, but the convoy was too close to ignore!
As we approached the calculated intercept, the calls came from the trusty watch crew, smoke on the horizon! Seems Thomsen's boat from La Rochelle had already been giving them some hell, 3 merchants and the lead escort were on fire and listing badly!
Seems the escort, even in her weakened condition, still wanted to protect her convoy to the death. I submerged to PD and quickly fired off an eel as she steamed toward me. Her injuries saw her unable to muster more than 10 knots - no match for a 40 knot fish!
The confidence was growing....
Sure enough, 2 other escort Black Swans quickly moved in to hunt down what sank her. I decided I was not toying with escorts this time. Either we die trying to take them out, or we have free reign on the entire convoy!
Some skillfull manouevering and both Black Swans are dispatched. Hooray, an unprotected convoy!
I'll leave the rest to the pictures.....
U-95 feasting on a convoy that wishes it was back in port....

Avid reporting of the convoy saw some fellow Kriegsmarine show up to help with the culling! Unfourtunately I was out of eels - I couldnt help him with the backup escort which arrived to chase him!
