Sound contact - fast moving screws in Grid AM35. Rough Seas, but fair visibility with no rain.

Up periscope. Visual contact with 3 BBs and a several escorts.

One escort on a 270 bearing 2000 meters and closing directly at high speed.

No time to waste... picked out the heaviest of the three visible battleships. HMS Rodney. only tubes 1 and 4 loaded from a previous engagement. that will have to do.

Range 2000 meters, Estimated speed 22knots, Angle on bow 44 degrees, prepare tubes one and four for submerged firing at a 2 degree spread and open bow caps.

LOS!

dive planes set for normal dive, lets play this one smart... nobody needs to know we are here until this is all over with.

SwishWash SwishWash SwishWash SWISHWASH SWISHWASH

escort that was one a 270 bearing now passing overhead.

got to the hydrophones to check out our torpedos... still running straight and normal. clock is ticking down, only seconds to go now. 3... 2...1 ...

Hmm :damn:

BOOOOoooooom! .... BOOOOOooooom!

crew cheering now as we pass 50 meters.

Ping.... Ping....

We hit her, probably took her out of the war for several months of repair work in dry dock but there is no way in hell we sank her.

Depth charged for 45 minutes. No damage. escrorts and BBs heard heading south at High Speed.

periscope depth. take a look around.

Nope those two torpedoes didnt sink her, but they knocked out here entire propulsion system, she is dead in the water!!! quickly, secure from silent running and reload all bow tubes, SHE IS MINE NOW!!! :arrgh!:

where did u find this taskforce?

the only capital ships ive seen where when i got a message to help the bismark. i spotted 3 cruisers headin SE at high speed. i gave chase but they outran me. bout 30 mins later i saw gun flashes, i arrived just in time to see the bismark sinking. i then spotted the 3 cruisers again and managed to squeeze of 4 torps but they all missed. i would love to find some carriers of bb's

Southwestern corner of AM35, task force of at least 3 battle ships, at least one heavy cruiser, and a minimum of 4 DEs.

I have had luck with task forces in the following area.

Draw this on your map with the ruler tool...

Start in the SOUTHEAST CORNER OF AM33 and draw a line to the SOUTHEAST corner of AM27... from there draw another line to the SOUTHEAST corner of AM72.... from there draw another line to the NORTHWEST corner of AM72.... from there draw a line to the NORTHWEST corner of AM27 then another line to the NORTHWEST corner of AM33... then finally another line back to the SOUTHWEST corner of AM33. you should end up with an angled corridor. Hunt within this area in 1939 - 1940 that i know if.

On my last patrol i ran into a heavily escorted carrier task force in this corridor fired 4 torpedoes at an illustrious. one torpdo struck an escort on the way to the carrier and everyone started zig zagging but the carrier must have increased her speed because one of the three remaining torpedoes struck her in the midsection and a second one hit her aft, the third narrowly missed aft by several meters. she listed hard to port and kept on trucking for several miles before finally sinking.

I have had much success in this area of the world. :arrgh!: mostly warships into and out of the med i would guess??

Edit: now that i review my SH3 commander files it was an illustrious fleet carrier and a Fiji Class Cruiser, then the immediate next patrol i encountered the group of battleships. very rich hunting grounds... also i should mention that there is a natural "choke point" where merchants and convoys tend to bottle neck into the St. Georges Canal in and around AM52/53 patrol those grid squares slow and submerged for several days and you will return to port with many pennants! Hydrophone contacts everywhere, but beware some of that area gets pretty shallow so i recommend hit and run tactics if you can.
