View Full Version : Lazy man's guide to GWX ship tonnage?

Is there such a thing as a list of typical tonnages for the classes of ship in GWX? Maybe an Excel spreadsheet or something like that? I've looked but can't see one.

I know I can look in the Recognition Manual but a quick reference list would be good for those 'quick target designation in a convoy' moments. If there isn't one, I'll just need to learn the values (or do a list myself I suppose). Did I mention laziness...;)

Ummm, you could just learn that from experience.

The small merchants, passenger ships and trampsteamers always seem to have 2000 till 2500 tons. large merchants have 5000 and above and those other big ships ("Großer Ladung" in the german version) have 8000 and more I think. Tankers have the most, I think even a medium tanker brings more tonnage than a large merchant. The cruisers have around 10000 tons except for the south hampton class which has half of it I think.

May the veteran Kaleuns correct me if I'm talking crap.

Yeah I agree experience could (should?) be employed here :yep:.

I just asked because the other day I sank a large cargo and a large merch in a convoy. At the the time of targeting I'd expected them to be about the same but the cargo tunred out to be 9500 but the merch was over 13000, a much juicier target!

Since then I found another one of these large merchs sailing on its own. Enjoyed stopping it with one torpedo and then sinking it with 5 shells from the deck gun. Nice rate of return - if only every torpedo got me 13000 tons!

It doesn't take long to know the approx tonnage of the ships. :know:

Time for a little learning then!

It's funny though that even between my post and Herr Kaleun Cook's we differ on tonnages of let's say large merchants. No doubt it's me who's talking about the wrong type of ship ;).
