Hej Guys, something has been bugging me.

When you start a patrol you have a choice of different deckguns to outfit your sub with. But for the life of me I can't find even the slightest difference between the different types, besides for their placement.

By the way. Where do you guys find that the optimal placement of your gun is? bow or stern?

The 4 50 cal is supposed to be more effective. You will see a difference in camera view on your sub after changing it.

I prefer mounting the deck gun forward. Most of the time I use it when pursuing merchants not escorted and then it's better to have it in front since most merchants will try to move away.

Imagine a sub with a deckgun forward and aft. That would be quite effective, but probably not historically accurate!

Thanks, tried out both guns last night, couldn't really tell any difference between them (hard to tell really since it depends on your aim and to a degree luck). Think i'll stick with 4 50 cal. for now.

"Possible bug warning!"

One more followup question has any noticed that when the seas are rough you can't man the deckgun (just as in SH3, no surprise there) however if you sound battlestations you can still manually control the gun and blow them bits regardless of the weather.

Only sometimes. There seems to be two different thresholds. At the lower threshold you start getting the message that the crew can't man the gun because the sea is too rough, however you can still hop on it manually and it will still aim/fire/reload even though the rest of the crew isn't there. At the second threshold you can't man the gun at all, and if you're on the gun will get bounced into the control room. It requires very rough seas for this to happen, and it's intermittent, so I expect this is related to keel depth.

Ah thats true, Ive tried manning the deck gun in stormy weather, the waves were covering the screen and I was getting moved back into the command room.

22-23 feet of depth you can man deck gun... beyond that it will put you in control room... Just keep hitting F6 when the depth gets to that number and fire a couple shots, it will then put you back in the control room after a minute... rinse and repeat

There is a difference between the two. Slightly greater armour-penetration, and the explosive radius is larger on the HE's. The more shells you fire, the greater the difference becomes.
