Anyone else glad that discoveries like this are happening? Sure its a long way away, but hey, probablilty says there are inhabited planets..

By inhabited do you mean alien life?:hmm:

Given the number of galaxies and the breadth of the universe, ie. infinite, I don't think that any rational scientific mind can discount that possibility.

I love the logical permutations of extraterrestrial life. I think I remember hearing that one book out there holds three theories as to why we are not in contact with other life in the universe or are not aware of it. 3 theories that is that are different from "they're here watching us".

I believe they went:
- that we are the first evolved life in the universe
- that we are the are at a similar level of development to other forms of life
- that we are the last evolved life in the universe

I find those concepts very interesting.

The star is Orange/Red?

In Galactic Civilizations II you can only find habitable planets around Yellow star systems.

option 4

they've been here already and decided they're not having anything more to do with us

It's are duty to take the planet by force and turn it into a crap hole and look for another planet.

This is really a very important discovery.

I still remember the days when I was a kid and read my first books about the solar system (I actually kind of devoured them), and they said that it is not known if any planet exists outside of the solar system, simply because it is practically impossible to detect them.

That was in the late eightees. Now we have 2007, and the search for extrasolar worlds has come such a long way. Following up on the discovery of a large number of gas giants, science is now moving on towards the more interesting terrestrian planets.

I can imagine before long we will talk about planets of our surrounding solar systemss like we are used to talk about our own, and chances are that some of those planets will be able to support life.

Now only the question remains, will we ever get to those planets? Personally I don't think so, it would bend the limits of physics a bit too much

I've just got back from there...

Global Warming is all the rage...

The "Left" is right, so everyone but the politicians are poor, and hungry.

Political Correctness is frowned on cause only politicians are correct.

It's total anarchy because everyone thinks they are the leader, even the poor and hungry people.

Theres only one religion and if you don't beliveve it they cut your head off.

:hmm: I say we leave it alone and wacth what happens to them and learn from it:up:

The surest sign that there is intelligent life on other planets is the fact that they have choosen not to visit us. (Calvin and Hobbes)

QUICK! Someone post a quote from Phillip K. Dick before things get squirelly!

Sorry, Bill Gates has already bought that planet and is currently installing Windows Vista on it, please come back later.

As much as he uses the word, U-533 doesn't even know what p.c. means, he thinks it is anything that isn't right conservative.
