View Full Version : Torpedos deflecting off target.
I've notived that quite commonly, if the torp is not fired sqaure at the ship, it will deflect. Sometimes in ports, I cannot do this, so I try from a weird angle and it bounces off whatever I do. Is there anyway to help reduce the chances of deflecting?
Also, i've noticed with some of the larger merchants, the torps don't make holes, but they can cause fires on board, why is this?

Are you using the "realistic dud torpedoes" option?
Are you using the "realistic dud torpedoes" option?
Nope, this is my first SH game so my realism is at 13. Only have "No Event Camera" and No Stabilize View" checked off.
Just a quick question about realism options, do you know wether there is limited oxygen while submerged without checking off the limited CO2 option?
Because I have limited oxygen when I don't have that checked off.

O2 level = 100 - CO2 level

Hole thing appears to be slight bug. You just do not get the hole but ship usually looks like it is leaking (based on listing).
As for deflecting, if torpedo hits metal in right angle detonator won't touch the hull and break. It can take place on angle from slope of bottom (if hitting close to keel) or just poor angle in shot. For those situations I would recommend trying to go for magnetic detonation. Get torpedo bit below the ship so it uses magnetic trigger instead of impact one. That is what I try when I have to shoot from poor angle (and often else as well since magnetic tends to wreck the ship better).
I recommed saving before shots and studying the depth you have to use since you are new and not hardcore captain. :) (much like me)

There are three cases a torpedo can bounce off the target ship. The first is if you have dud torpedoes turned on. You don't, so that's out. The second is if it strikes the ship at too steep an angle; try to shoot in such a way that the torpedo hits the ship from less than a 45° angle. The third is if the torpedo runs too low. If you've looked at the underside of the ship models, you'll have noticed that the underside of the hull is curved. If the torpedo runs too low, instead of hitting squarely the curved part of the torpedo will glance off the underside of the ship without detonating. They are 21" in diameter, after all, and the detonator whiskers are much smaller.

The fourth thing is if your too close the torps did not have time to arm.
