Hi all, new guy here.
I read a while back about a bug where if you end your mission with men in damage control you lose them.
Well I went and did it - survived a hell of a depth charge session (down to 49% hull) and surfaced and ended the mission with a full damage control team. Now I'm down an officer and crew but the compliment back at base says I still have them!
Is there a way to fix this? I don't want to continue my career without a full crew.

Welcome:up: Don't think I ever did this, so I am not sure of the answer, someone will know.

This is to do with your officer as your junior officers and sailors are not affective by this bug. If you got SH3C just dismiss him and get a new officer and don't forget not to leave him in the damage control when you dock.
PS: Welcome on board.
As Steed said, with SH3C it's easy to get another officer. If you don't have SH3C or you want to get that specific officer back, check post #7 of this thread:

Sorry for the newb question, but what is SH3C?
I have Silent Hunter III (I got the SH3 part), but what is the C?
Thanks,
Herr Russ

Thanks,
Silent Hunter 3 Commander.. An add on program where you can manipulate settings and such.. It's a free download, just read through the 'stickies' on top of the forum and one will point you in the right direction..
Good Luck..
I lost an officer like that. If you don't know his name, there's no fix. :nope:
Welcome aboard! :D

Well, it's easy enough to find his name - you write down the names of your remaining 4 officers and then look in the config file in the first 11 entries and find the guy who's listed there who's not on your list!
Unfortunately, I could not make sense of the instructions in the link above to fix my .cfg file.
I have downloaded SH3C and will try and use it to fix the problem.
Thanks for the help!

You'll be fine with SH3Cmdr
If by any chance your playing GWX (only applicable to GWX) don't forget to d/l the cfg file :arrgh!:

Just to interject with the reason this happened. Maillemaker is describing a very old and rarely seen bug in stock SH3. If you return to base with an officer in the damage control slot... He will "disappear."
There was a way to recover said lost officer... but it is complicated for those unused to manipulating the files.
Reminder to all. Prior to returning to base... move your damage control team (at least the officer) to the regular compartments in the sub.

you can also load your last (full crewed) patrol and do everything all over again.
i have to do it all the time...:damn:

I lost some of my best Officers that way... and no, playing again is not always an option (I don't think I always survive a full blown convoy attack - and one officer isn't that valuable to try)

SH3C allowed me to dismiss the "missing" officer and then I was able in-game to assign a new one. All is well now. Thanks for the help!
