Hi All

I bought SH4 and it works well and I am very happy with it - even though it does getting used to after playing SH3 for a few years.

I started my career from Pearl Harbour and was told to "deploy to Marshall Islands" as no 1 instruction. No 2 instruction was to "Engage and destroy enemy merchant shipping"

Ok, so I get out there and no 1 instruction goes to "complete" on my captains log while no 2 says "incomplete"

I have scoured these islands for over a month and a half and have found no shipping at all. Looking at the map that comes with the box I'm thinking to myself why should I, these islands are way away from Jap shipping lanes. So I decide that maybe the game plan is for me to venture on to other islands so I set sail for the shipping lanes off New Guinea. However, before I even get to the Caroline islands I come accross some small islands between Caroline and Marshall islands and going in close (magnification) I see a harbour with what looks like sub pens. It is called 'Kolania'. I take my sub in and I start getting fired upon so I get the hell out but pass an American cargo ship on its way in. What gives?

Because of fuell shortage I give up and make my way back to Pearl and take the option of 'refit'. My fuel is topped up (didn't need any torps) and it looks like I still need to engage enemy merchant shipping around Marshall islands but there isn't any.
So what must I do?

Why do I find a harbour called Kolania in the game but it isn't on the map?
Why do they shoot at me but a USA cargo vessel sails in?
Why can't I find 'Majuro' in the Marshall Islands? (My carreer started in 1942 and I see the USA only set up base there in 1943). If the Japs were using that base then I would find the enemy merchant shipping.

Am I to go further west than say the Palua islands? - but if that is the game plan why not say so and rather say "Deploy to Palua islands"

Please help me here.

The game will tell you to patrol the Marshall Islands while there is no Japanese shipping there, I've encountered it as well. The roughly 10,000 tons of merchant shipping you have to sink do NOT have to be sunk near that objective, however. Since you've refit, I recommend going elsewhere for better hunting. You'll find some merchant traffic in between Guam and the islands southwest of there (I can't recall the name now, but it's a major Japanese stronghold), there's quite a lot of traffic in the East and South China Seas, or you could run down to the Solomon Islands and hunt down there. Pay attention to fuel; I got from Pearl Harbor to Guadalcanal on 26% diesel yesterday, but I ran at Ahead 1/3 all the way and started staying submerged during the day once I got within 1000 miles of Rabaul. Down there, if fuel gets low, you can refit in Brisbane.

Alot of questions here

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=111509

When you complete task No. 1 you are free to sail virtually anywhere and engage shipping. You do not have to stick around the marshells. Once youve sunk 10K (I think) of merchant shipping you will fullfill the requirements of task No. 2

Your other questions I dont really know as I have not experienced this myself.
