I am a bit confused with the friendly ports. Can any one clarify , I understand the anchor represents major ports but can you refit at other friendly ports. SH3 showed all towns and ports with coloured lables clearly identifing who is under whoms controll. All my lables are blue for all ports and whats the story with the striped anchor?

From what I know you can only refit at harbors which have the anchor. The stripped anchor means that there is a sub tender where you can refit your boat. I hope my rather short answers helped you.;)

Still a little uncertain re your capacity to continue same patrol after refitting at friendly port.
On a recent patrol after attacking various shipping I ran out of torpedoes and put in at a nearby port where I was provided with fuel and torpedoes-----but I noticed that after this refit, though I sank various other enemy vessels in the area I was not credited with these in the log for that patrol.

Any insights on this--thanks

This is new to me, after refitting at a sub tender or friendly base my patrol log still shows every ship I sank.

Thanks for that tip , I didnt know that but I'm still confused about who holds wich teritory at certain times. Maybe someone can make a mod that displays ports with coloured names like SH3.

I thought you were supposed to be able to refuel at friendly ports, refit at sub bases, and get crew and upgrades at your home port. But I went to Darwin to try to get fuel and there was none. Apparently there are no "fuel only" ports.

Darwin and the north coast do not have bases due to hostilities.

But, you can add a base or tender. Take a look at \Campaigns\US_NavalBases.mis via the Mission Editor. Closest refits appear to be a tender in Exmouth Gulf and the Port of Brisbane.

Just make a backup first

I realized there wasn't a base at Dariwn although the place was loaded with Allied warships, but I thought you could at least pick up some fuel there. It says in the manual pg. 59 that at neutral ports you can supply with fuel. I have yet to find any of these fuel only neutral ports.

OK, so to make this clear:

Is it possible to refit and/or refuel only in ports which are marked with an anchor on the navigation map? Or is this possible in ports without an anchor on the navigation map also?

This is really important to me as well. why all port names are blue is beyond me. I wan't to be able to tell where the enemy territory is by glancing at the map. And this changed alot during the pacific war. Why in the hell would they get rid of a simple feature they already had such a coloured port and city names. :damn:

I'm sure this has been discussed before... has anyone been able to find out if it can be modded... can it?

I could swear this was written someplace...but I like typing ;)

Best education into this is thru the Mission Editor.

1) Sh4MissionEditor.exe --> found in SH4 root

2) File --> Open --> Normal Mission (scroll all the way to the right) click-on and Open: US_NavalBases.mis

3) Use the Hand tool to move around the Map. Zoom in and out.
3a. Bases look like a upsidedown T
3b. Anchors are naval bases, Striped or hashed anchors are subtenders. (These are just map graphics, not actual base entities)

4) Unselect the hand tool and Click-on one. (upsidedown T's) Right click Properties.
4a. Look at the Entry and Exit dates. These are the times the base or tender can be expected to service you.

**** Do not save, close out of the editor when done ***

There is a question as to if Subtenders can do a full refit vs. a rearming.

happy sailing :arrgh!:
