View Full Version : U.S. War Department – 1943 Recognition Manual

Miss Behavin
04-19-07, 10:05 AM
Hi!! I have an FM 30-50 Recognition Pictorial Manual of Naval Vessels, which I have scanned. Being a 1943 military FM, I'm all but certain that there are no copyright infringements.

270 Scans, about 130MB. Wasn't sure which would give out first, me or the scanner, but we made it.

Download Link: http://www.filefactory.com/file/323532

Alternate Download Link:
Thanks to the Generosity of "Sir Big Jugs," he is now hosting the file for us. I understand a considerably more stable link than FileFactory.

Again, thank you, and enjoy!

And now, thanks to "gabeeg," there are alternate formats available!

Thanks gabeeg! Good work!

Made a web and photo album of the rec manual

Miss Behavin,

Thanks for going thru all the effort to scan this rec manual. For my own personal use I made a PowerPoint photo Album of all the individual pages and also created a web page for them. This makes it easier to for me to view them all. I also changed them all to black and white pages as opposed to the current sepia and black. If you are interested in getting these or want to post there location on your thread, be my guest.

I did not want to take the liberty of posting the link to your thread myself...not sure how you feel about others redistributing and altering your work.

Thanks again!

I'm sorry you're having trouble accessing it. I don't use the site very often so at best guess I am thinking there is a traffic limit.

Did you scroll down far enough. On some of these free hosting sites, the download link can sometimes be difficult to see so you have to look at all the advertising first.

The download link reads, "Download for free with FileFactory Basic"

Keep trying but if you still have no luck after a day or two, PM me and we'll figure something else out.

Good luck!

I've heard of people having problems with Filefactory before but I didn't know where else to upload it.

My main concern is that it be available to those who would like to have it.

You've got my blessing on it. Please do! Host away!

Just finished lookin' through this...Amazing:rock:!! But i have one question: How did the naval intelligence gather all those photos...? From sunken ships/dead crewmembers or just spies.??... Many of those photos is so good, that it looks like its been taken by a professional photographer...:hmm: (edit: No intention to hijack, miss....i was just amazed by all the photos)

A lot of info was actually passed around pre-war. At peace nations like to show off their toys.

A very good point and question. I believe also, that Sailor Steve most likely has the correct answer.

The boys do like to show off their toys, be it a new truck, stereo, or battleship. :yep:

I'm glad you're all enjoying it. I tried to initially put them in a PDF format but it kept messing up on me, hence the individual scans.

Wow, this was big. Took me over 4 Mins to download.

I can't wait to look through it. I wish I could view PowerPoint files but what I have should be just fine.

I might just try to past the Pics in Corel and print them out, maybe 3 pages to a single 8½ x 11 sheet and make a book. ;)

Hi!!

Sorry for the late reply. I have to start remembering to log out before closing my browser. I think it still shows me logged in even when I'm not online.

Anyway, I had tried using Adobe, and it worked somewhat. The problem was that some of the images were smaller than others. After three tries, gave up.

You probably won't need it now....but for future use, yes you need the printer driver

The funny thing is...when you select 'print' your printer box pops up and instead of choosing your default printer you choose the second option 'PDF995' and instead of carrying out a print run your computer puts up the document in PDF format on your screen. Obviously if you select your default printer you will get a printed copy :D
