That first picture Borei it is not.
That is the Yankee "Akson" used to test a new spherical sonar that is more than likely on the Borei.
As of yet there are no pictures of the Borei apart from the stern.
bTW where is your friend aaken?

Absoloutely sure
If that is the new Borei then we have nothing to fear. Looks very shoddy.

Whatever it is, the rear picture clearly shows a shroud around the prop. Or at least possibly one.

What flag are they flying in the top picture ... I'm not up to date on flags.
Plus that sub has seen some sea duty for sure ... we came back in after 84 days in the Med one time and we were bleached almost all white and stink, man did we stink, but then we always stunk like dead sea life when we came back in ...

Why the Russian national flag of course :p

bulbous, whale-like, fat, heavy and slow-looking...ugly!
their shapes certainly dont look as though they'd be the most efficient or quiet through the water..

The picture posted is definatly a yankee akson i have seen it at the pier it doesnt go to sea often but it is the trials ship for diffrent types of sonar, it even tests civilian sonars used for the americans on special contracts, and the british its one of these "to hire" boats.
To be real honest its very ugly the bow looks like its been in a smash up and they havnt botherd to repair it.
also this yankee is nearly 40 odd years old.

Do you have som information to confirm this? I find that hard to believe. Testing civilian sonars..?? nah..
