View Full Version : HELP! game never leaves the initial screen to go to the menu

Just downloaded the 1.2 patch and installed it over 1.1...game goes through startup but never leaves the initial screen to go to the menu. Took everything off and reinstalled, same thing. No error message, just sits there with the red bar all the way to the right. Exiting out there is a warning message that says menu id missing. This is a registered version and not a rip.

I uninstalled everything again and reinstalled 1.0; boots up and runs fine. Reinstalled 1.1 and works fine. Install 1.2 and it runs through the movie, goes to the first screen and runs the red line indicator fine. Then nothing. Close out and error shows Menu ID not found. I tried downloading 1.2 from a different site and did it all again, still same problem. I am running Vista so could the problem be there? :damn: :damn: :damn: If I could get back to my ship, I'd sink her myself.

Did you remove all your mods? I noticed the Hamilton Night attack watch is not compatible with v1.2. Gives the menu ID error message.

Best bet is to save your MODS folder, MyDocs/SH4 and any other /cfg etc files to a backup. Or HD permitting move entire folder to another as hunt/peck Backup.

Do a full uninstall and delete the sh4 folder

Install the latest drivers for your gpu and directX
reboot pc.

Reinstall 1.0 and run the School #3 torp attack

Install Patch 1.1 run torp attack again

Install Patch 1.2 run torp again
(Now you're vanilla)

Now change all the settings the way you want ( some in graphics require closing and rerunning sh4)

I was getting this when I installed the mini-chrono mod. After removing the mod, loads up fine.

Thanks for the responses. I just checked and there are no mods installed. I will try the torpedo class technique.

Ok....followed this recommendation to the letter. Sank the ship in both tutorials. Ran the 1.02 patch and got to the first initalization screen. Red line goes all the way to the right and nothing......alt+tab out after waiting 30 minutes and sh4 warning screen Menu ID not found. I'm out of ideas...Where is the menu id file that it is not finding...it has to be the file that sends you to the screen for picking career or training or whatever.

Maybe the 1.2 patch was corrupted? Download al patches again, uninstall and delete the Ubi/sh4 folder, reinstall and then patch with fresh downloads?

Yeah, you're missing one of the config files or some such.

I reloaded everything again, plays fine on v1.0, v1.01 then does the same stuff again when I try 1.02. I' ve downloaded from UBIsoft and one other mirror into seperate folders, tried them both. Could it be something in Vista? Running dual t2250's with 1 meg memory right now, ordered 2 megs the other day and they sent the wrong ones. Ati x1400 video card. Newest drivers on everything and hd optimized. No mods installed and no Jsme.

but i think had something to do with mods. i was able to play just fine last night. tried to add the mods today and something hapened. prob my own fault for trying the mods i had before...dumb me didn't look for updated ones. so i think it did something. oh well, next time i will be more patient and wait for updated mods!

Definitely good advice. If you are unsure, it's best to start fresh, install and patch before playing. Then play it a while before you add any mods.

Getting the same error. Downloaded from 3 different sights. Clean install, no mods. Not even a Mod folder for mods. Menu error like he has above. 1.0 and 1.1 work fine.:cry:

^ what he said, patching 1.2 over 1.1 without first removing the sh4 folder in my docs seems to cause problems. Start fresh...:up:

Yes mine works fine...there is another thread about the hanging problem, sounds like a mod issue with a menu id that no longer exists in 1.2, check that out. :hmm:

Will be glad to help further. Might be --> Data\Menu\menu_1024_768.ini

My install shows a: menu_1024_768Old.ini too, maybe from GME added mods thou.

Nothing like jumping in the quicksand with you....

I tried the following:
Removed the menu_1024_768.ini file and loaded-up SH4. The red bar gets to about 80-90% then a Windows 'ding'
Alt-Tab you get a message box, "Warning Menu ID not found: 0x2b060000!" Is this what you see? Does your Menu ID missing error show an ident string?

That or any other ID corresponds to the Text ID section in the ini file and will give us a lead into what's missing:

[G2B I137]
Name=Marking lines
Type=1026;Menu group
ItemID=0x2B060000
ParentID=0x2B000000
Pos=217,-89,590,590

totaly removing everything fixed it for me.

i also went and deleted the ubisoft folder that was left after the uninstal.

then i installed the game (rebooted), ran it. shut it down. then installed the first patch (rebooted), ran the game, shut it down. then installed the final patch and rebooted one more time.

game been working like a dream since then.

another good tip that has nothing to do with the error we were having, is to be sure your game resolution and refresh rate matches the resolution and refresh rate you have your monitor set at. this worked wonders for me and thought it was worth mentioning again!

Yes scubaDon, had exactly the same problem as you. It's a Vista thing. Everything you install goes into the Virtual Store folder as well! Navigate to this folder and manually delete the SH4 copy directory. You'll find copies of JSGME and your MODS folder for it also!

User/AppData/Local/Virtual Store/Program Files/Ubisoft/SH4

Hope this solves your problem, worked for me:D

The 1.2 patch includes the 1.1 patch,so there is no reason to even install 1.1. Having two versions of 1.1 installed may also be causing part of the problem.

I am finding that since the Patch 1.2 being on the game, it has become rather sensitive to any further changes, such as putting on mods, once Patch 1.2 is loaded. I am now getting SUPER RESULTS by "restarting" after each mod is placed on, no matter if its a JGSME, Mini Tweaker or Copy and Paste, Its tedious ...yes...but it seems to do the trick!

What could be changing between 1.00 and 1.02 that is causing this error. I can't see any major change between the menu file from 1.01 and 1.02...which file might be changed that would look for the menu id...

scubaDon,

It is not just a Vista thing. I have XP SP2 and the same error came up for me when loading the game after installing 1.2 over 1.1.

My SH IV file was altered with Jsgme and I had 1 mod installed the green light one.

Before I installed 1.2 I used Jsgme to disengage the mod but my game crapped out anyways.

I uninstalled the game going thru the following keys:

Start/all programs/ubisoft/silenthunter IV wolves of the pacific/uninstallwolves of the pacific.

Then I verified that I did not have any other Ubisoft games installed and deleted the ubisoft folder and verified that the SH IV shortcut was gone too. Ran defrag and turned off machine.

Restarted machine and installed SH IV and direct X when asked by installer.

Installed patch 1.2 (no other patches). Says you can do that in the read me.

I re-started the machine and ran defrag. The SH IV install & 1.2 patch had fragged the game up bad.

Re-started the machine again and ran the program for the first time after reinstall and have not had a problem since.

Just wanted to agree it's not a Vista thing. I have it too now with WIndows XP. No real reason either, just started doing it.

The only change I made before this happened was going from ATI driver 7.2 to 7.4.

Now I have to spend more time screwing around deleting stuff, re-installing stuff, hours tick by.

It's getting harder and harder to keep carrying this flag.....

Ok...here's the fix for this problem...since the menu file is somehow not wanting to work, and Captain Cox's pull down map changes the menu file...I started with a fresh install, then installed 1.02. Before running anything, added JSGME to the root file. Downloaded the pull down map and tried to install into the mods folder in the root section. Thanks to Vista, no go. Won't let me add to the folder. Made a mods file on desktop, unzipped map file into that, replaced the other mods file in the root file with that one. Ran JSGME and added the mod. Bingo...loads up perfect. I never ran SH4 until all this was done and never rebooted between installs. Hope this helps.:rotfl: :sunny:

I have the exact same problem, but I got the game to load by disabling the navmap mod, I left the other two mods (green button and bearing chart) enabled, I then got to the memu and was able to start a new mission. However, I did get a ctd after about 30 min. Thanks a lot UBI! this is getting to be a real bummer. Looks like I am out the $50 and back to the Atlantic. Joe S

Using the Real Fleet Boat mod fixes the problem also.
