For all the new captains and C.O.'s reporting in on the Silent Hunter IV forum, you may want to review this before starting a post, because you are driving me NUTS. Meet little Billy:

http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/posting.php

It is starting to get real hard to read or find usefull "stuff" now that Patch 1.2 is out without reading posts someone else started already. I/We are wasting time that is already there or duplicated. The princlple remains the same on all forum boards.

OK, little Billy? All in good fun!

[p.s. In love with the 1.2 patch]

That is choice stuff! I've seen it before on another board, only thing I'd want to change for this board is to make it look like a '40's vintage sepia-toned newsreel.

You ask me, Neal should run that whenever a new member signs up, as part of the signup process. Does get kinda "cluttered" around here seeing the same subject pop up in a dozen threads...

Rather have you say that than me out of respect of how long you have been here over me.

"Length of service" don't have anything to do with it! If you've got a good idea, say it, even if you only signed up yesterday! Last weekend a swabbie like yourself posted a "fix" to get all the outer doors open at once and it worked! Was his 1st post too. I'm glad he didn't wait for a more "senior" member to think it up!

I think it would be a good idea for newbies to check out Billy, if even only 1/2 of them listen it would help keep things more managable around here. I freely admit to having asked questions that have already been answered, but I do the best I can to search the forum (for hours if necessary) before I ask. The "clutter" could be reduced greatly if most of the new guys did that.

Used to have that in my sig till I realized it was futile.

Just give it a few days the noise level will calm down.

In the meantime the search function works pretty good as opposed to some other forums.

I was considering starting a "1.2 thread", "Another 1.2 thread", "And Another 1.2 thread", just because some idiot will use it.

Great stuff. :D People will be people though. We all learned the Driving code in order to pass the test and get a license...how many of us use it correctly as we drive around though?

There's rules to driving? Insanity!

I generally pick my nose, put on makeup in the rearview mirror, talk on the cell phone, drink whiskey and fire a shotgun out the window all while driving.

Couldn’t help it - the pods must be hatching, but on the flip side it's nice to see an active (and growing) community. :arrgh!:

I was Sooooooooooo tempted to start a Little Billy award thread too, but everyone would have nominated me first.

That video is both hilarious and pure gospel. It really is frustrating trying to find useful threads in this forum when there are 50 ones devoted to the same subject. :nope:

Oh this forum is not all that noisy compared to others I participate in.

In the long run probably the best way to deal with repeat "noob" questions is to answer it in brief, or point them to an existing topic then let it (the topic) sink to the bottom.

I'd just like to say that i've used the search on this forum before and i've found it to be next to useless.

sorry sorry sorry for dissing something here but i work in IT, google a lot, use the internet a lot, forums etc and really find the search utility here not to work very well at all.

Is it me....?

Allow me to expand on that a bit.

The best way to answer any noob question (repeat or otherwise) is to welcome them to Subsim.com, welcome them to Sub Sims in general and then to answer their question as best you can. Either that, or go on to another thread.

New people are the lifeblood and future of our hobby. If I ever see anyone acting like some of the Jackasses that play Falcon 4.0 and treating people they way they do the brig is going fill up real quick.

And I'm talkin' serious brig time.... not Paris Hilton time!
