I haven't tried this for long enough to be sure but I think I may have found the answer to ONE of the save game bugs. Emphasis on THINK.

Twice now I have loaded up Silent Hunter 3 when the computer has announced that it is low on Virtual memory, in both these instances my save games disapeared. Since then (and this has only been for a few days) i have made sure to shut down and restart the computer before loading Silent Hunter 3, and to date all of my save games have worked perfectly.

I have not been doing this long enough to be sure but I think this MAY be a workaround inorder to make sure you do not lose your saves, just shut down and restart the computer before you play

If anyone else tries this please tell me beacause I would like to have a larger sample base than just myself and a few days playing.

If you're running Win 2000 or XP the virtual memory error message is sort of a generic catch-all that Windows pukes up when it can't figure out what the real problem is. In any case the bottom line is that your OS is hosed. A reboot is always a good idea under the circumstances. A cold restart is even better. That also clears out video memory.

Get a tool like TweakXP or something like it that let's you reorganise your RAM. It rearranges what's loaded into RAM and drops out some of the extraneous crap that Windoze leaves lying about cluttering up your gaming experience.

Also as long as you are not going online, kill your virus checker and firewall software and anything else that you can kill that's is open in the system tray. If you do this before running your memory organiser, you can save heaps of RAM which is one resource that SHIII is a real hog on.

Don't discount running a regular defrage either as this can sometimes sort out problems with virtual memory.
