View Full Version : Crush Depth Struggles!!

So far I am finding SH4 very enjoyable but am having problems when evading escorts and going deep. I have installed the Crush Depth Mod and I am still having major problems :yep: with the sub below 100m, even with no damage:o. It makes evading escorts and stuff pretty much a drag. Once I am past that depth the sub is pretty much toast. Current sub is Gato Class.

Any help would be appreciated.

I do not understand. I go to 250 feet w/o issue or mod installed. How can this be with your submarine and a mod as well:hmm:

Anyone?

I think I will go crawl into a hole:o, in the in-game settings I choose Metric ( my Canadian Roots ) and not Imperial. So I am guessing via the metres thing I am over 300 feet. That is why I am toast:damn::damn: Will check this later.

I think that's it AVG, thanks for the reply, I am off to the subsim hole in the ground now to hide:yep:

If you have some damage diving to 50 feet can be a fatal mistake.

I am used to SH3, taking a while to get used to with SH4:yep:

I was going to ask you because you said 100m but I thought you were just translating the feet into meters as this is what you are used to doing. As for metric and me, I'm lousy at the metric system. 100 meters to mee is 100 feet. Oh well, one day the entire world might be on the same page for Imperial/metric system.

For the game I think I am going to go with Imperial as per SH3:yep: I have had some good patrols, then bam, toast. Some issues with SH4 are not as much " bugs " but getting used to some of the new stuff. Have a good one:up:

Feet and Metres is the easiest conversation to make, effectively 3:1.

Yeah I was reading as 100 feet, when it was not, it was metres. Dumb mistake:yep:

Ah, 3 feet to 1 meter? That is a yard in my book:D

I tell ya....those Germans made a HELLUVA pressure hull. 200 meter (600 ft) dives to evade escorts would simply CRUSH any US sub we have in SH4.

But I must admit liking 6 fwd torp tubes and 4 aft :yep:

In his book "Clear the Bridge", Dick O'Kane tells how he routinely took the USS Tang to 600 feet.

A guide I been using. So far no problems.

S-Class - 60m - 196 feet
poupoise - 75m - 246 feet
Salmon - 75m - 246 feet
Sargo - 75m - 246 feet
Tambor - 75m - 246 feet
Gar - 75m - 246 feet
Gato - 90m - 295 feet
Balao - 120m - 393 feet

there are like 39.x inches in a meter

1 meter = 3.3 feet

That's the best balance between brevity and accuracy in quick conversion. :know:

These are the Manufacturer's tested depths aren't they??

I've had the Salmon at 355 feet depth and the Tambor at 364 feet.

Oh well, one day the entire world might be on the same page for Imperial/metric system.

Yeah eventually the USA will get with the times. :p Gotta love a system where most conversions are divisible by 10. :know:

10 mm = 1 cm, 100 cm = 1m, 1000m = 1km

We like a challenge having to learn both.:smug: Besides, the navies of the world seem to be hard pressed to get rid of Imperial too .. using Knots and all.

It'll all be over when our boats are doing km/h instead of knots. The old traditional measurements will be dead.:-?

I was thinking about knots the other day. It might still be around due to the fact that it would be extremely hard to get a speed in km/h manually but you can always just throw a rope in the water and find out your speed in knots.

Anyone know why metric using countries still use knots in maritime measurements?

The metric system is more precise to say the least. Maybe one day the world will end the confusion and get it together:yep:

Wouldn't it just take recalibrating the rope with smaller knot separation to get the speed in km/h? :D

(Disclaimer: I am not familiar with all the methods of measuring speed in knots but I assume you refer to the method where a rope is released in water and the knots are counted; the knots are 47 feet and 3 inches apart which equals the amount of feet travelled per second while going 1 kt).

I'm pretty sure nobody keeps a rope lying around with knots tied in the proper places for speed measurements anymore.

Actually, today the nautical mile IS metric - it's exactly 1852 metres, which comes to 6076.11549 feet.
