And so they were in my latest test mission in the use of mine warfare.
Jan. 15, 1942 - 8:45 AM in one of the shallow passages just off
Leyte. A Jap Convoy heading to assault and occupy one of the many
bases in the Phillipines steams thru the passage only to have this
happen:
1. DD hits mine and promptly explodes and sinks.
2. Lt. Cruiser hits mine, listing to port but still moving.
3. Troop transport hits mine and breaks in two.
4. Lt. Cruiser hits 2nd mine and goes dead in the water.
5. Minesweeper hits mine (guess they don't work in SH4) sinks fast.
6. Another troop transport hits mine, goes down by the bow.
7. Small tanker hits mine and turns into large fireball, nothing left.
8. Med. freighter hits mine, nice explosion and rapid sinking.
Only 4 ships left, 2 DDs, 1 small freighter and 1 med. freighter
The 2 freighters stopped moving and this time I would agree.
The DDs were just out of the minefield and they DID NOT approach.
I felt like John Wayne in the move "In Harms Way" watching all that
destruction. The moral of this story is: mines in SH4 work very well !!
I loved using them to great advantage in "War in the Pacific" and I know
I will love using them here in SH4 as well....

Are you placing (scripting) more dense minefields back into the game? There are some scattered but a real mine field should have a whole bunch of them waiting for a submarine too.

The beauty of the mine-laying process is they can be placed now at
any depth, in any quanity and in any shape. So I would not rule out
in the campaign games of any enemy port not having minefields....

5. Minesweeper hits mine (guess they don't work in SH4) sinks fast.

It did its job though.

Most of the ships were minesweepers but only once. I take that back.
The Lt. Cruiser did clean up two of them by itself....
