This man has put the justice system at risk by his dishonest behavior and in the process placed a pale over all prosecutions in this country. If the system does not hold Mr. Nifong accountable with a term in prison then how can we ever consider the system legitimate?

I dont know what kind of punishments they hand out for said crimes....

But I gotta say, I agree with ya, %100. One must worry about all the cases that didnt get such publicity. You have to think the only reason this is all coming to light is because of the public nature of the case....

Same goes for the victims, or defendants in this case. Had they not been so publicly cleared of all suspicion and charges, they could be looked upon as rapists for the rest of their lives, despite any outcome of trial...

...Sucks.

I don't know Virginia law concerning this situation, but my understanding is that the US Justice Department may have to prosecute Mr. Nifong for civil rights abuses before jail time could be imposed.

Never the less, I hope that all prosecutors, regardless of their level, are put on guard as to their behavior. Politics is not an excuse for prosecutorial abuse.

Makes you wonder about the other innocent people these political ADAs put in jail.

Can you imagine being convicted for a crime you did not commit just so some guy can get reelected?

Thats scary

There is a former high profile Judge and lawyer here in AUstralia who is facing up to ten years in jail.:D His Crime? It all started with a red light camera offence!:yep:

When he was issued with a notice, he made a decleration in court that he wasn't behind the wheel at the time, a visting professor from the US was. He just had the bad luck to be in court when a reporter was there who made a note of it. The reporter wanted to get the surname right for the professor, so he did a check (ther is a first time for everything!) and found out the the professor had been killed in a car crash three years before.

Now this is where it gets really twisted! The judge then claimed he had made a mistake in the spelling and the person in question was living in India. The police did a check in India and the U.S. and found no such person existed.

Then the judge produced a person who said she was driving the car. This woman was a convicted con artist and know liar, who had even been sentanced by the judge. By this time the Police had uncovered three other traffic convictions that he had used the same excuse for, and so things were looking bad for the judge. The an Ex patner came forward and gave the police a statement that she had been in the passanger seat when the office took place and the judge was driving.

The juge is now facing 8 criminal counts and his scape goat con artist friend two convictions as well.

I hope he likes porriage!:D:up:

Heard about that idiotic judge down there, good thing he won't be on the bench again.

As for the prosecutor I hope he gets life imprisonmnet, that's probably what would've been handed down to these Lacrosse players had they been convicted.

But cases like this don't come as any surprise to me. My own family has been railroaded by such prosecutors as well, with complete and utter disregard for evidence or prior history of the individuals involved.

Nifong's non-apologetic apology.
"To the extent that I made judgments that ultimately proved to be incorrect, I apologize to the three students that were wrongly accused,"

This arrogant b*st*rd would have been better not saying anything.

He goes to trial in June. Also, the three students should be allowed to sue him for defamation, and put the accuser on trial for the same, and she should be thrown in jail for falsefying accusations. On top of this, the school should be sued for wrongly suspending the students without proof over simple accusations from a mentally deranged accuser. These guys probaqbly wouldn't have been able to finish their quarter anyway after missing so much class. If I were one of these guys, in no way would any of this be over yet.

PS. Now the sad part - These guys will never be able to shake these charges for the rest of their lives. They now have to live with it even though they are obviously innocent. Some people will never buy the fact that they really are innocent.
