DD hydrophones

Was reading about the issue with the subs' hydrophones not working at periscope depth, and a thought occured to me:

Does ship speed actually affect the DD's hydrophones in SHIV? When you are approaching a convoy, it seems fairly easy for the escorts to hear you unless you are trying to be stealthy, regardless of how fast they are traveling. Shouldn't their hydrophones get washed out at a certain speed?

I was playing a War Mission and hit P to Pscope depth, I had seen a DD 6,000mts away. Anyhoo at PScope depth Porpoise 16mts, no contacts, took her down 1 to 17mts suddenly contacts..

Sonar 17mts works , 16mts doesn't work

answers alot of those questions. Apparently, DD Hydrophones wash out at 15 knots.
