Gameplay bugs for me. Most notibly, the stopwatch not working in order to get an automated speed figure.

With all of the problems that this title obviously has it's becomeing clear to me that the devs havent played it yet to see if it even works! (Build it yes" play it no)

I'm sure they've played it, they just weren't given enough time to finish it.

I have to agree with Party boy on this i reckon if theyhad spent another few months playing it to death they would have found the bugs, seems like it was rushed out basically the suits won out again from what ive heard:yep:

Here is what I think. The Devs need to worry about graphical glitches and gameplay problems like crashes to desktop and so on. The wondeful team of modders we have can fix all the historical and minor graphical bugs like skins and such. Not only can they fix historical problems, but also tweek the game to each player's wants (like realistic deck gun reloads vs gattling deckgun mode).

meh.. it doesnt work corrctly, pretty basic problem. havent got far enough into the game to even notice minor problems, and i wont till the issues go away

**Work in Progress** All Torpedo Doors Open at Same Time mod v1.0
I am currently working on a mod that allows all torpedo doors to be open at the same time. This isn't a keyboard function mod.. but actually fixes the problem in-game. I accidentally came across this fix while working on another mod. Anyways, it works perfectly and will be released soon. :|\\
Well, after further testing it seems that I have run into a problem. But I will see if I can fix it. Not sure if this will work.:damn:

The problem is I've had it happen without any notification of serious damage. I get hit, "We're taking damage sir!", I check the screen, only the AA/Deck guns are damaged. But after spending hours on the surface with a damage control crew active, I dive and sink nose first. That doesn't seem fair (or realistic? surely I'd have some indication of that kind of damage.)

Graphical glitches and performance (monolith of death, memory leak ,stability)
and some gameplay bugs.
the harcoded things are the more important because are impossible or very difficult to fix by moders.

Bugs and the clouds.
Seems that game play bugs are the main pain in the rear end so far:damn:
Well why wouldn't they be?
It's easy to look past graphics bugs, assuming they're not too big (even the infamous 'monolith' isn't much), it's easy to ignore spelling and even historical inaccuracies don't neccesarily ruin a game - gameplay, on the other hand, is key since it's a game after all.
Seriously, many olde time games that those of us with memory or a taste for relics cherish are butt-ugly and make real silly historical abstractions, but they're easy to like because they get the gameplay thing down pat.

I hate to be a negative Norbert, but I am a little disappointed at this point. Please
take everything I say with a grain of salt because I am not a game expert or a
programmer and I admit that at this point my thoughts
are half-formed. Also, I do not intend any wounding remarks at all.:p
First, I would have to spend 5-6-hundred dollars to upgrade my "measely"
2gig CPU and associated hardware to optimize this game and I'm not
going to do it just for this game! So it runs a bit slow and the cursor
has palsy. And it crashes often enough, even with the graphics slowed
to SHII (?) levels.
I would also suggest that the control buttons and the sequences for their use is
klutzy and not particularly intuitive.
But all of this is secondary and can be fixed, either by the builders or the modders.
What bothers me is that the game lacks SPIRIT! It doesn't have any American
can-do enthusiasm. It feels sterile to me: abstract and mechanical. SH I was much
better in that respect and SHII Pacific Aces wasn't too bad either. You know, if they
had gotten imput from the right sort of American ex-submariners they could have
given it all that kind of feel which it lacks now.
Also, the crew looks too central European to be a typical American crew. And
they all look like they spend time lifting weights and most US sailors didn't look like
that at all. Hell, I think they look like a bunch of neanderthals. (Maybe that's how
Americans look to Europeans anyway?:p )
I was also expecting a quantitative and qualitative jump in sophistication for this game
and it just isn't there. They may have pushed the graphics to a new level but
there seems to be nothing in the command, control and communications phases
of the game to create new interest for old subsim players. You have a crew of eighty
people and they should be bombarding you with information to help you make
deicisions. There should be a constant flow of messages from ComSubPac, etc. on
Magic decodes of shipping traffic, etc. Where is the human interaction? That's where they really
dropped the ball on this release, in my opinion.
It seems to me that unless there are some pretty serious improvements in this
particular game, there won't be that many new people signing up for the duration
in the Silent Service!
I do hope the designers come up with a couple more patches to make the game better.
In the meantime, I have uninstalled and await further developments. Back to SHIII, NYGMTW!!

Yeah i have to agree with you on this games like silent service and SS2 and Aces of the deep and many other old school sub sims dating back to the late 80s early to mid 90's were brilliant games i probably spent as much time between SS1/2 as i did playing elite yes i'm that old.

I think the issue is two-fold...
for those (like me) with a mid-low range comp - the graphics (not enough options to gain more fps without losing eye candy)
for those with super high range comp - the graphics (not enough high end graphical capabilities)
For evryone in general - the annoying gameplay issues that require mods to be able to play without CTD's etc
Steeltrap

I think macky makes an interesting point - the sim doesn't utilise high-end specs and yet without them things are a bit dodgy. In some respects that's inevitable, but I'd have thought 'options' should aleviate that somewhat.
40% of respondants have selected "all of the above....". That's pretty bad.
I gave Ubi both barrels - or should that be all 6 tubes? - in a post I called 'rant'. I've since been playing with a bunch of mods downloaded (just on that, we are sooo lucky to have so many patient and talented people working on mods for us!!). Even with them, I am finding it very disappointing. There are simply too many things wrong with it for me to find it enjoyable, so I've shelved it until the next patch or two and some 'ubermods' get done. Pretty poor for $100 if you ask me.....
FYI, here's my rig's specs:
Athlon 64 FX-62 Dual Core
Kingston 2Gb DDR2 667MHz PC5300 RAM
SB X-Fi Platinum
PCIe ATI RADEON X 1950 XTX, 512 Mb DDR4
Even with all that (i.e. everything maxed out) I don't find the sim very 'alive'.
I guess I'll have to 'wait and see' like everyone else, but I don't find it easy to accept shoddy product, no matter the justifications offered in this great site.
Cheers all

speaking of bugs , i was assigned to go to singapore port and take snaps of the harbour i get real close in and a message comes up saying "Deploy men now" not in exact words can't remeber but its got nothing to do with taking photos , i answered yes anyway as the other answer was postpone. But it should of asked me, "Do i wish to take photoshots" or whatever (first time ive done a photo mission so dont know what it should say) yet it asked me to deploy troops instead. Now im right near the port, twiddling me thumbs as i dont know what to do next:hmm:
The icon in the map is a star with camera. Is the mission failed or should i wait for 48 hrs or so. Also do i do anything for photos to work like do i actually take snaps using the persicope? If so how?
TIA
EDIT oh yeah i should note when i answered Yes to Deploy troops, nothing happened, their was no inflatable craft and i was on the surface, funny thing is l was like 2000yrds from the enemy base on teh surface in calm waters in BROAD DAYLIGHT :) with no enemy in sight....
Still its buggy as hell but i love playing this game - cause i like watching my sub. :rotfl:

Lock you scope on the ships, on the scope tab there is a camera over to the right. Click that like 7-10 times for each ship. This will complete your mission.
I never had a deploy men on a camera mission.....put Bernard in the tube and let it go....orders is orders.

UBI made the claim that they have their act together by publishing the game and they also got paid for it. The posters that bought the game made no such claim. It would appear that we will have to wait for Silent Hunter 14 before they get it right. At $50 a pop. Or we can hope that another software company will come along willing to dedicate the correct amount of time, financing and resourses to do it right. I think it is a shame that we aren't right now playing the best submarine simultor possible given the technology that is available.

I'm not convinced that SH4 is the most bugged game in the last 10 years (Star Trek legacy springs to mind) but it is one of the very few games I have shelved after no more than 3 hours of play. The main reason I'm not playing SH4 now is because of the damned resolution issue which I'm praying will be fixed in 1.2. In the 3 hours I played the game for I had one repeatable CTD, I noticed the log slowdown problem and a few other problems. Personally I would live with the other bugs (for awhile at any rate) if they fixed the res.
SH4 is a really complex piece of software which clearly wasn't given enough development time. I'm sure I speak for the majority here when I say that I sincerely hope UBI provide enough time and resources for the devs to finish SH4 so that it's full potential can be realised i.e. FIX ALL HARD CODED ISSUES, modders can do the rest.
I would ask for one thing from UBI, that they officially post that they will allow the devs to fix all of the major hard coded bugs in a reasonable amount of time. Going back to the original topic... the current lack of guarantees is what bugs me the most about SH4.

For me, it's the graphical bugs.
Most of the other things, modders can fix.
But stuff like higher resolutions and Anti Aliasing can't be done via third party.
Give me that and I'll be happy. :)
As for most bugged game... Try Flight Simulator X. Yikes...

You see.... this is why I HATE polls.
This thread has been dead for 4 1/2 months, the OP hasn't posted here in almost 3 months but somebody votes in it and up it pops.
Seeing as just about nothing in it is valid anymore it is time to put it out of it's misery.
