CD Burner troubles...

Wondering if anyone in these here parts might have run into a similar problem...

I have been burning CD's with no problems for over a year with my PC. Now, it seems like all my CD's i've burned in the last week or so have all come out with skips in them. The music is skipping at certain points during playback after burning. Cant figure it out! Im thinking maybe a dirty lense in the burner?

Anyway, im all ears if you have an opinion.....

That or the moving eye gets caught on something for a second. I've never heard of it.

Some possible explanations:

Your players head is getting out of alignment - a new drive if typically cheaper than getting it fixed.

You may have a StarForce driver issue that messed you drive (this happened to me) - this may or may not be fixable by removing the drivers.

Your latest version of media that you bought may not fully be compatible with your player (You can fix this one for no cost at least be upgrading the burners firmware if any firmware is available), or by buying different cd media

One more thought - simply burn slower on the media you have. Most burners kick into CLV (Constant Linear Velocity) mode around 8x speed or less. Above that, they typically burn in CAV (Constant Angular Velocity) mode which is less music friendly, or movie friendly for that matter. CLV mode is best used if burning music or movies for use in non computer devices since it changes the speed of the CD as it gets from the inner tracks to the outer tracks making sure the burning laser never changes speed as moves over the surface. As you may have guessed, this is best for Red Book Audio since it makes an even burn across the CD. For computer code (Orange book), CAV is perfectly fine since you can burn faster across the CD and your computer doesn't care where a bit starts and stops as long as it gets the data.

PS. Blow into the drive to remove any possible dust. Just an idea that works sometimes.
