View Full Version : What do you want to be when you grow up?

I have no regrets at all about my military career I loved it but I wish the end result would have turned out a little differently. If I had a second career my choice would have been train engineer and my third would have been graphic artist or a web/app designer.
So what would you have liked to be before life got in the way or if you are still in school or college what do you want to be, and what would you like to be for that second career?

For me it's a hard choice between the USAF-SOC or the Navy. I'm leaning twoards the AF right now, though...:-?

I am a fortunate man. I am doing what it is that I want to be doing. As I age each year, I find greater appreciation of just how fortunate I have been thus far.
I always wanted to be in the armed forces.
I applied for the army at 17, but got turned down just because I had hayfeaver. :shifty:

I've been a soldier, a telephone tech and now I am a teacher. When I retire from that in another 18 years Rose and I plan to move up to Maine and run my 100 acre tree farm. We'll also run a little Bed and Breakfast for hunters and fishermen.

I want to be a rich man when I grow up ... :yep:
I want to be so rich that I can buy the Glomar Explorer and go looking for my old boat the USS Salmon SS-572,
on the bottom of the sea off of Long Island sound, sunk for target practice, raise her back up, restore her and
invite everyone that loves submarines to dine on board her one more time and remember the old days.
Sometimes memories are all we have left, plus a dream now and then.

You mean SEAD [pronounced: See-add] (Surpression of Enemy Air Defence). No longer called "Iron hand."

A fighter pilot.
(no, bad eyes)
A musician.
(been one for forty years; never made any money at it)
A professional historian.
(didn't figure that one out until a little too late)
Now? There are a lot of books left to read, a motorcycle to ride, more music to play, a sister to visit, maybe a reunion with my kids.

My highest priority is being a good husband and father in the future. Career comes after that.

Cheers, I plan to apply to my nation's intelligence service after I finish up university. But if my grades are high enough, I'd like to go on to post-graduate studies. Then by that time it's anyone's guess!

I used to think a lot like this. I was previously training as a journalist and didn't like it because it would keep me away from my future wife and family for too long... but as I got a sense of the world outside my door, I wanted more and more. Now it's going to be a looong time before I settle down!
