View Full Version : Realistic sound travel time and cannons/explosions

I'm using an Audigy 2 ZS w/ latest drivers, and with this great option enabled, I get tinny/weak AA cannon (tested only 20mm, not 40mm) firing sounds and little portions of the explosion sounds that randomly occur at full volume after an explosion is over. There is also sometimes crackling and popping, especially when both AA cannons are firing. These problems are readily apparent in the artillery training mission.

I'd sure like to keep this realistic option, but I can't figure what is causing certain sounds to be bugged. I've tried switching speaker types, sound ports and sound acceleration with no luck. Also adjusted the sound channels slider in the game with no improvement.

Anyone else having/had this problem? Did you find a solution?

I've experienced similiar problems with my X-Fi (current drivers installed). I think there's still some bugs to be worked out with this feature, like there were in the release. Until then I'll just keep this feature disabled.

Im not currently using this option - i found that when i did have this option on i was getting a lot more repeating sounds and stuck sounds than when i had it off.

so i play with it off. Now - repeating sounds are very very rare.

I beleive it has to do with the sound option 3D sounds. Move that slider all the way to 0 and it will work fine again. It just sucks because it negates the benefits of 5.1(I have the Audigy 4) :damn:

Nah, as mentioned above, moving the 3D channels slider has no effect on the issue. The problems are only tied to the realistic sound travel time option.

get a different bug I think. occasionally I get this horrible skreaching, hissing, static noise that forces me to trun my volume down so my cats dont tear up the place and my ears dont bleed. it just repeats for several minutes then stops.
