Guten Tag,
I've got myself a little bit of a situation here. I was on my way home after a pretty successful patrol with only 1 forward torpedo left. Along the way, I ran into a convoy. Since it was there, I thought I might as well use my last eel on a small merchant or something, just in case I got lucky. Well, I'm not sure if this is lucky or not...but in the middle of the convoy was Revenge-class battleship. He crossed 800 meters off my bow, so I said, "What the Hell..." and let him have it. Last torpedo, a steamer, set for a fast keel shot...
I nailed him! Hard! But not hard enough. I stopped him dead in the water, but he ain't sinking. I spent two hours playing hide'n'seek with the escorts until they finally left, but that Revenge just won't sink. She's listing, that's all. I have nothing left except my deck gun and flak, but that Revenge will shred my VII-C like a can opener if I try that.
So...think she'll sink or just taunt me through my periscope from 1500 meters away?
No chance at all and a wast of a torp you were lucky. ;)

Surface call for ramming speed man the guns and attack
with full maneuvering on the way in guns blazing and ram him
they will never expect the boarding party and it may
sway the balance.
seriously though Use deckgun after dark make all shots manual
and put them all into the waterline spaced evenly along the
length of the hull or if you know the location
of a magazine on the revenge class focus on it
with waterline shots.

Your be lucky to get one round off before being blown out the water. :p ;)

I knew it was suicide, but I had to try it. If only to see how long it would take to die...
I waited until 02:00 when all was dark and silent. Lowered the scope, surfaced the boat, and manned the deck gun. Surprisingly, I wasn't detected at all when I broached the surface. That changed pretty quickly once I fired the first deck gun round...
The night turned instantly to day when the spotlights flared up. The first few rounds of machinegun fire took out the crew on deck. Then the port batteries opened up and that was it. A puff of smoke from the Revenge, screams of agony from my crew, and that, as they say was the end. Except that none of the crew lived happily ever after...
Of course, I knew that was gonna happen so I saved first. I'll just reload and slink away with my tail between my legs. Maybe next time...

I'm hoping I'll meet up with that Revenge again, some day. We have unfinished business. That was the first warship I've seen larger than a destroyer and I was really hoping she'd go under, but after sitting through two days of game time at high TC waiting, I don't think it was meant to be. This time...
I'm on my way home to Lorient now for some much needed R&R (and a little slap'n'tickle with the nurses). Time to decide whether or not I want to spend my hard-earned renown on a shiny new IX-class boat or carry on in the VII-C that's served me well so far.

With a type IX you have more torpedoes! It can be useful next time you encounter revenge! :rotfl::rotfl:

Out of curiosity, how far away from it were you when you surfaced? Being in machinegun range may have been too close, I wonder whether you may have survived if you were further away...
I did. :D :smug:
Are yes it all comes back to me now.

About 1000 meters, give or take? I was on the port side a little toward the stern trying to find a blind spot where maybe they couldn't shoot back as well. I wasn't worried about the small arms fire as much as those big cannons. I didn't expect to avoid them completely, but I had hoped to minimize their effect a little. So much for that idea; they can track pretty good. Although, I really wasn't expecting to survive which is why I saved before I tried it. Just wanted to see how fast they'd take me down.
Is there a sure-fire way to take those bigger ships down with one torpedo? Not knowing the weak spot, I fired my torpedo about midway between center and stern hoping to hit something critical. All I managed was to stop it from steaming away.

I don't know about "sure-fire" since the power of a torpedo's explosion is variable (and it may not even go off). You didn't mention exactly where you were when you encountered the battleship, but if you are close to German-controlled territory you can always call in a spotting report and see if the Luftwaffe boys can take him out. IIRC the Revenge has pretty pitiful AA armament so even a couple of Ju-88s could do some damage.
You might not get credit for sinking it, but you might at least be able to watch it go down; alternatively, call in the Luftwaffe first and see if you can pick up a damaged straggler or two.
