I just recently got SH4, and it's my first Sub sim so I'm still learning a lot, but I've come a across a couple things I wanted to ask some of you vets about. I'm using the Flavored for Taste mod if that makes any difference.
First, everytime I surface and turn on my radar planes seem to home in on me right away. However it seems like if I do not turn on the radar, I never get any plane contacts. Is this expected behavior?
My second question has to do with my 2nd patrol of a career I'm on. I'm suppose to be going after merchant ships, and I've gotten word of a convoy headed near me. I move to an intercept position and sit silent until I get a Large Composite freighter locked at a range of about 850. I fire off several torps and dive to around 250 feet making a hard turn then going to silent running. Now the escort warships converge on my original location and start dropping depth charges. I make a few directional changes to best avoid their paths as I make my way slowly away from the main convoy. Now I've saved before this encounter and have redone it several times, and get the following result every time. Some of the first depth charge passes will be fairly close to me, but I get no damage reports and checking the ship it looks untouched. Sevral minutes later as I start to put some distance between myself and the ships suddenly I get a string of messages saying that virtaully every bit of the sub is damaged and I go down like a rock. I don't see any other kind of feedback messages, so I have no clue as to what is happening. It's like out of no where my ship implodes. Does damage from DC's take a long time to register or something or is something else happening to me that I'm un aware of?
