Turn on infinite fuel and batteries and go to brest, or lorient, or St. Nazaire - any of the U-boat bases really...pull into the SH3 default starting position dock of any of the ports and you will hear an invisible band playing "Deutschland, Deutschland Uber Alles!" the default SH3 send off song.

and dont worry - there is nothing there to attack you.

yeah i think there is a lot of U boat data in the SH4 files

not complaining, just curious and went exploring to see what was over there.

Was stated months ago, that Ubi took Sh3 as a foundation and built up on it. yes, you will find alot of SH3 artifiacts in the directory structure as a result. Sort of a no brainer.

figured as much on the whole borrowing from SH3 thing.

sorry man - this past few days is really the first chance i have had to try the game out since it was released.

So ?

You think the Germans should play the USA National Anthem ? :D

From a previous thread...

Many sequels are merely improvements built on the previous parts. Medieval 2:Total War still has all the Rome:Total war files in it. Anything related to Roman legions is simply 'disabled'.

But I will say this, last night I fired up SH3 just for a memory refresher. I couldn't believe the difference in the graphics. I love the environmental effects and translucent water of SH4. I like the new Torpedo computer too.

Not only will SH4 far exceed SH3, but it will develop and evolve a lot quicker than SH3 did, both for the devs and the modders.

It may be built on top of an existing game, as most sequels are, but it sure has a ton of improvements and new features.

And given a little time, the devs will surely address and fix all of the issues and concerns that have been brought up. Time that unfortunately they weren't allowed before a certain large publisher insisted on a premature release.

There's a whole team of good talented guys working on our behalf. Speaking in general terms, we should all stop trying to rub their nose in the dirt every day.

What the hell were you expecting? Uncle Sam trusts you a brand new fleet boat and you sail it to surrender into an enemy port! Did you expect them to surrender at the sight of your boat and play the american hymn?:stare:

Very rarely will a sequel to a game come out that has been re-built from scratch.

Everyone needs to look at the bright side of this......transfering the already crafted uboat into SH4:yep: A new game with total global conflict. One modder has gotten a uboat hull into SH4. He was having trouble getting the conning tower to show. Another thing, the SH3 modders have a good grasp on how things worked in SH3.....half the trial/test/tune has already been done with SH3 therefore new mods for SH4 will come quickly.:yep:

I see it a win/win situation.

Too true!! I am delighted with the speed at which mods and tweaks have come out. One advantage of having a game based on a previous design. The modders are already familiar with the code!! A patch or 2 more from the developers, and a supermod or 2, and this game will be an absolute classic!!:D

I made a trip from Pearl to Kiel ~week or so back. Didnt hear any music, tho. Nor there was the Kiel Canal.... nor the Moltenort even as it was marked to the map.

In WWII you would be court martialed for that. Is really a big BUG that the dev-team did not include such a court martial in the game :damn:

Perhaps they just figured that no one would actually be... umm... errr... oh never mind.

You know, for all the talk about realism and immersion....how many US sub Captains decided to forgo the Pacific and go sailing off to Brest or Lorient? So what if Silent Hunter 4 is overlayed over Silent Hunter 3? Who cares!?

I've stated this before...the Devs were given a 14 month production schedule to produce a game that required 18 months in order to build it to the required standard. Given that scenario, there are two choices; cut corners everywhere and "get er done". Or, keep to the standard that you know is correct and release an incomplete game and patch it in the first 3 or 4 months after release in order to get it to where it would have been had you have had a realistic production schedule in the first place.

The Devs chose option two. I for one am very grateful to them for doing that because the "get er done' version would have been an arcade game.

Patched to 1.2, this game will be very good and very playable to simmers and casual game players alike. Should we be fortunate enough to then get a 1.3, then that patch in combination with the mods from our excellent modders will give us the best sub sim ever in my view.

hahaha i saw exactly what i expected to see really . i was just curious if there was any traffic or anything "easter egg" like up there. Christ im sorry for pointing out something i thought was a bit interesting.

I don't think it was the specific act of pointing this particular feature/flaw/whatever out... but rather the overall context of most of your posts that brought out the devils in some of us.

But it does remind me of and incident with Jane's F-15.

Somebody figured out how you could actually land the thing upside down. They could not wait to get on the Flight-sims Newsgroup (this was before the widespread advent of forums) and point out what a piece of crap the sim was because you could do this.

CJ (Smut) Martin (one of the sim's developers who went on to develop F/A 18 before he finally got so disgusted with the "community" that he gave up on simulations all together) came back with what I thought was a simple, elegant question.

"Why", he asked, "in a simulation with the overall fidelity of Janes F-15, would you even try to land upside down? What, exactly, were you trying to prove?"

Needless to say there was no answer forthcoming.

damn - all that time playing Janes F-15 and i never landed the thing upside down??? (well at least not on purpose) :rotfl:

no- i like sh4 - wasnt trying to point out a "flaw" just something i noticed.

It all started when i loaded up a quick mission and tried to locate the ghost ship - which i assume is the flying dutchman. I did this by taking a route from Java to the southern tip of africa - when i didnt have any luck i thought to myself... "Hmmm wonder if anything is going on in the atlantic?"

honestly - i didnt expect to see traffic there. just easter egg hunting i guess. i found it somewhat interesting that you could dock at german u-boat bases and hear the german anthem.

no more - no less
