The game has ass-trocious Memory leak problems, usually after 30-40 minutes of continued play I've found. I also have 2GB of Ram.

:hmm: Hmmmmmm!

I'm running SHIV maxed-out on a Dell XPS M1710 notebook under Vista Home Premium ( 2 GB RAM, Intel Core 2 T7600, 512 Mb nVidia GeForce Go 1950 GTX graphocs card. ) and so far haven't experienced this kind of problem.

All I can suggest as a first base is that you use Windows Task Manager ( Ctrl + Alt + Del ) and check what processes are running.

I'm sure there are people with far more knowledge than I who will help you on this forum.

Can't comment about vista as I'm using xp but according to the lcd display on my G15 keyboard, sh4 uses 85% of my 2gig of ram while playing it, it's never gone above 85%.

Perhaps a Vista bug?

Nah... couldn't be... not Microsoft. Must be SH4.

Yeah could be Vista thats the problem.

Although i use to get this problem with SH3, when i only had 786mb ram, after a few hrs of playing it would take me to the desktop telling me not enough memory. Installed 2gigs and problem went away.

Either tis a bug, or is Vista, or SHIV really needs 3gigs of ram as minimum specs:huh:

Do you have a USB card? If so you can use it as ram with the Ready Boost feature in Vista.

I have Vista and 2 gigs of RAM and have no problems. Vista doesnt take a gig to run but its close: 701 MB as I type this.

No problem here either. I'm using XP with just 1 GB and SH4 seems fine. (ok, bit choppy, but fine).

My biggest problem is with other apps kicking me out or minimizing the screen just to say the App fixed a prob. Usually, I just disable Defender Pro (the rude software) just before I play any Sims.

Wait. I have had a problem twice, once just now and both times from the same circumstance. I tell my sonar/radar operator to follow a contact and even after I tell him to stop he keeps going and for some reason the game crawls down to single digit FPS and I have to ctr-alt-dlt.

MikeJW,

I had your problem when I was running a poor vid card. I'm on a 2 gig XP pro and I have not had any CTDs not related to the A key (before I modded it) in two weeks of play now. I build and repair computers for a living and I probably run a cleaner machine than most people.

Lol ! 1 gb for vista only... it means that you need 2 more for play games, or 4 if you want a dual channel configuration . (2 sticks of 2 gb)

perhaps in some situations Sh4 could have a memory leak that makes it unplayable after some time. :hmm:

during slowdowns im running 98% of memory

I'm running a 7900GS and have had only 3-4 CTDs since release day but 2 of them have been tonight. The crashes I described may have been due to the "texturless obelisk of doom" glitch but both happened when my sonar radar operator kept calling out contacts.

The problem is the Nvidia 8800 Vista drivers. This memory error occurs in a lot of different titles. Mainly in memory intensive titles such as FSX. Not sure why your seeing it in SH4, not a lot going on there as far as texture rendering etc. This "should" be corrected in the next Nvidia driver coming out later in April; but we'll see.
