lurve this game, but I've got a few questions.I'm really stuck

Okay, I've looked through the post for a long time now and I still havent found any answers to these questions.

THE RADAR?????

Okay, I have a radar installed and I've tried all the subs types and still no joy. The turn radar on button always stays blanked out. and I have the new patch installed.
On the tutorial mission where you dont have a choice to install it and its still not active. I'm a game developer form Melbourne and I cant see how this got past the testing stage. Is there some magic trick to get the radar on. I get the updates from the crew, but I would like to have a look myself.
I check the tutorial on using radar, but he just says to turn it on.

Second is the torpedo thingie.
On the game settings I always the the AI compute the torpedo solution itself and in the quick missions it works fine, but in the career mode it dosent give me the green line, this is SO frustrating when you spend an hour linnig up a shot the check the attack map and there is nothing there ( I;ve set the wepons to be automatic in the brifing room too). I fired a couple of torpedos to see what happens and they dont show up either even though they are in the water.

The game lloks great though and I would love to be able to play it, but its just too frustrating, escpecially when everyone else seems to know how to do it. I feel silly.
So to sum up, I cant use radar and the auto torpedo solution in career dosent work for me.....please help...

sorry i wont be of any help.i have the same radar frustrations as you.ive never seen it display anything,any time, in any boat ive been in.yet radar contact updates are given? maybe someone will know why.-jem.

Right now, the two different types of radar don't work very well until you get both of them. For instance, the air radar will sometimes pick up surface ships and not air contacts. Also, between dives, it just stops working. A known bug being worked on I think.

As for your torpedoes in Auto-TDC mode, let me ask:

Exactly what difficulty settings do you have checked in "Gameplay" options. We can point you in the right direction after you let us know. :up:

okay, I've played the battle of midway and the green line for my solution is back.
In career mode it dissaperars even though I dont change anything in the realism settings.
Next strange thing. I turn on manual targeting system and the smae thing, the green line is in quick mission (which it shouldnt be) :damn: and still missing form the career mode........I've been trying to play this game for a week now and I have sunk 1 ship!!!!
What the hell am I doing wrong?
The realism settings dont seem to work with me.please help...

This may come as a surprise but there are two places to set the realism in SHIV. One is in the main menu, the one you used now probably, but after starting a career you'll have to set the realism options for the career separately.

You do so from within the command room. Tilt the camera to the left and you'll find a old radio on the cupboard/archive and it'll highlight as 'options' when you hover the mouse over it. That's where you can (or have to actually) set the realism and other options for the career you're going to start.

I'm playing at almost the same realism as you, what I have found with auto fire is that when the solution triangle turns green and you fire the torpedos miss the stern almost every time . When the target is about 20 degrees from 0 or 180 I unlock and aim the torpedos myself. Most torpedos will hit close to where I aimed. To check hit F11 after you fire and follow the torpedos on the surface. Hope this helps.

thanks guys, I've found it. Its was a bug. I've been playing from brisbane and everything seems fine, but if I go anywhere SW of midway I lose my auto tageting.
I'm sticking to the Solomons.

Someone reported that the green line in career mode disappears when you get west of Midway.

i dont go by the green arrow(unless am point blank (with 500), i go by what my instruments say, angle to the bow where on the ship its goin to hit etc..


Behold...-
I lead him slightly to the right(angle wise), so the torps hit him near the center.. which usually is thier achilles heel
