ok im having a really crappy day, first my sh3 dvd got scratched so i figured id pop out any buy a shiny new one (only £9.99 dont you know).

got a new copy, reinstalled everything from that disc as i was going to do a reinstall anyway to tidy up my pile of mods.

however now when i try to start the game that stupid copy protection box just stays there for about 6-7 mins and then tells me the cd key i entered was wrong and i cant play my game...

now excuse me but wtf?!? there is NO stinking cd key, i havent entered anything, how can i get rid of this stupid copy protection thing, i just want to play the game i paid (twice) for!! and why on earth does a sub £10 game have more copy protection measures than the pentagon`s nuclear launch codes its just overkill!

rant over, id really like to know if theres anyway i can actually play the game, a friend of mine just suggested i may need some starforce removal tool to kill any remenants of my previous install, is this true? if so where can i get it?

If this doesn't work for you, there is a generic cd key which was released by UBI for people who have the same problems as you. You should be able to find reference to it on the UBI SH3 Forum.

Also, make sure you have completely removed all remnants of the old SH3 from your system, including program folder, my documents folder & all registry entries for SH3.

A word about the SF protection. This protection installs/runs for the first/only time when you click the SH3.exe to start the game from disc. I suspect that your friend is right and that there is a conflict with the old SF drivers left over from your previous install.

Failing all of the above, try Google  for someway to solve your problem.

Oh and if you havn't all ready done so, please sign the petition at the top of the SH3 General Topics page. We'll try to make sure this doesn't happen again.;)

there is NO stinking cd key

Might be a moot point, but I'm sure I got a CD key printed either on the disk or on the paper insert, and mine was also a 9.99 or thereabouts job. I can check later but it's not in front of me right now.

You can try manualy editing your registry, just type regedit into the browse box. Then delete any Ubisoft folders.
