Okay, I read the tutorials and watched the instructional video on how to use the TDC to enter information into the computer to get the desired result. However, I just don't get the result! I am trying to get it in the torpedo tutorial. I ID the ship and click the checkbox to send the info. I use the transparent ship and place it so its bottom is touching the top of the highest mast of the real ship. If the ship is perpendicular to me (I am facing North and he is facing East with his front of the ship), I place the rotating thing so that the sharp point of it is pointing right. Right?

Welcome aboard, Slon.

The setup you describe is correct, you rotate the ship image until you have it pointing right. That would be starboard 90

Here's a tip I got from John Channing: practice by observing ships with the Manual TDC and realistic updates off. The AOD part of the TDC will give you accurate info on every ship.

Good hunting!

So I identify, angle to my ship, transparent bottom at real top, and then speed. When do I turn on the position keeper? Also, how do I get the real speed of the ship? I seem to be having trouble guessing it.

I also have a TDC realted gripe... To me it appears that I have to ID the ship I'm fireing at for the TDC to give me a solution, is this true?
This is really annoying if I want to take a quick shot. In SH3 I often said "to hell with range", just put in an AOB and speed and fire! Now in SH4 when I double check the torpedo path in the attack map I won't get the expected result, sometimes no path at all, if I haven't ID'd the ship.

The only real reason for me to ID a ship in SH3 was to calculate the speed... which you can't do in SH4 anyway.

In sh3 and german uboats, the bearing was always updated.

In sh4 and Us boats, the bearing is manually sent, together with the range. You DON'T have to identify the ship.

Wait a second, so in SH4, I don't have to go into the recognition manual to ID the ship with the checkmark?
