View Full Version : Save the Bismark
Aloha,
I am trying to see if the game follows historical precedent - my plan is to assist the Bismark if at all possible. Initially I am going to lay off the West Coast of the UK and see if I can intercept the either the carrier or the BB's that departed to search for the Bismark. If that is no a show I am planning on attempting an open ocean intercept and loiter in the vicinity of the where the final battle occurs. I figure a full load out of torps and some luck I might be able to sink one or 2 of the BB's that assisted in disabling the Bismark and forcing her scuttling. Has anyone tried this yet?
Someone reported running into the Bismark action by accident.
Good luck with your project.

I read a post sometime ago, can't remember by who, but it said something about sneeking up along side of one of the two or more capitol ships and surface very close yet enough so one fires on you - misses hopefully but hits a freindly. You may need to fire first? This ties up the game AI as they (as posted) blasted away at each other then as you wait and attack the survivor.
Seriously I read that somewhere

Encountered Bismark in stormy seas and thick fog in the northeast corner of BE53 at around 8:00 am on the 27th of May 1941... several british ships circled in the fog attempting to locate Bismark. after half a day of circling the british group broke off their search and headed to the north east. bismark still running circles with her rudder "jammed" (by use of strategicly placed waypoints) she has been running circles since 27 may - its now 15 June 1941. would have been a hell of a show if it were not for the fog - going to keep watching her to see what happens if a convoy rolls by LOL

In my campaign I started not too long ago in Sep' of '39 I've come across and sunk at least 1 of the perpetrators that attacked the Bismark later in history. The HMS Rodney will not be (or at least should not be) present to attack the Bismark.
Came across her in a convoy that passed through my designated patrol zone. There were merchants and such abound, but I tossed all 4 tubes at the Rodney and boogied. Got to hear her breaking up from my nice secure depth of 120m and about 8km or out from where she sank.
In another chance meeting I came across the Nelson. I don't know if that BB was present or not for the attack upon the Bismark, but she sunk a lot faster then the Rodney did, much to my chagrin since it was a foggy and rainy day. One where I didn't realize how close I was to the convoy until I popped my scope up and there was the Nelson 500m just slightly to my starboard side. She got all 4 forward tubes in a somewhat blind shot. 3 hit. I then had to crash dive and do some evasive maneuvers because I was heading right into the path she would be taking. Thankfully we only took light damage to the aft tubes with mild flooding as the Nelson sank past us and I'm guessing her bow brushed as us we passed.
With external cam and action cam turned off, I honestly have no clue how close to death we were on that one. I just know that my Chief Engineer had to excuse himself to change his shorts afterwards.

isnt it pointless trying to save the bismarck? because even if you do take out all the ships bismarck still sinks anyway as its coded into the game like that, correct me if im wrong :88)
