:nope: Running patched Vanilla..

Just ended my 20th patrol in November 1944 and the war is really taking it's toll. My partrol grid was smack dab in the middle of the Irish Channel. Lots of warships, but also tankers running in two's. My Homeport of Lorient was lost to the allies and after sinking 74K tons, 41% hull integrity and very low on diesel, I ended the patrol with "Return to base" since Uncle Karl wouldn't tell me which base to return to.

It's now late December 1944 and my homeport is Bergen. After that hour long transit to blue water and running past Scapa Flow, I'm picking up several liberty cargos. Some are taking 3 eels to sink since I don't dare surface & use the deck gun. They have nailed me accurately from 2500 meters away and at night. I can surface my IXB for maybe 3 hours a night before being chased down by Wellingtons. That's barely enough time to reload my internal torpedo stores and start charging my batteries. I'm forced to run at 14 meters with my snorkle barely above the waves to recharge my batteries and that's at 16 TC. Very long patrol indeed with frequent crew rotations. I now find myself burning through diesel like crazy (running 1/3 on snorkle) and not looking forward to that long run home. When does the war end in SH 3 and what are my options when that happens?? This career has spanned almost 5 months for me

Good Hunting..

Sounds shattered to me, I wonder if he had any kip in the last 5 months :hmm:
If you're still off the coast of Scotland, call in and I'll put the kettle on, sounds like you could do with a cup of tea before that long trek back [only 3 mugs I'm afraid and one of them's for my sheep, 'Daisy'] :rotfl:

LOL... You guys crack me up

I started this career in October '06 and it's rapidly coming to a close.. I can't forget the 'Happy Times' in 39 & 40 off the US coast and in the carribean sinking unescorted tankers and cargos.. Next career will be played DiD so I'll hopefully learn from the mistakes I'm making now..

Good Hunting!!

I'm playing patched vanilla (fairly new cpu w/ 1 gig ram & the GW mod played real choppy).. I'm on Patrol #21 December 1944 but only playing 60% realism & not DiD.. Stressful enough at times... :arrgh!:

The war ends in May -45. However,if you are at sea at the time, it won't just end. You can go whereever you want then, visit Scapa Flow surfaced if you please, the allies is no more your enemy.

I once finished an entire campaign from -39 to -45 (playing stock SHIII ofcourse). I ended it all by goofin' around in the baltic sea and hunting sovjet shipping. I was outside Leningrad when suddenly: Bom! War is over! So what did I do? Well, I returned to my old sub-base Kiel (my current was really Bergen) where I started the war, and entered the port on May 16th,1945. For me and my men, the war was over, but we did some glorious victories over the allies, I will not forget that campaign, since it was my very first to complete...
