You can't get rid of them. AA & AF is NOT supported.

There has been talk of this being corrected in a later patch but for now you're stuck with it.

Looks great to me at 1024x768. -shrugs-

so i may as well save lots of performance and set my AA an AF to either app controlled or set at minimum then?

It shouldn't make a blind bit of difference whether it's on of off. SH4 does not recognise it.

For info: the devs have said they will try and enable resolutions above 1024x768 and FSAA in the next, 1.2, patch. Their original decision to disable these features is baffling - and about the reasons for it they are strangely silent.

Cheers,

RD.

yeah i am at a loss too as to why they disabled all that.......the world moves in mysterious ways:yep:

Cheers,

RD.Turn on AA and AF and depending on your system watch the FPS drop by 25% to 50%. For folks who have all the fancy bells and whistles turned on now turning on AA would kill the FPS even on a very high powered system.

For me anything over 20 FPS is good - I can't tell the difference between that and 40 - but that's just me. Lots of people can and dropping FPS down into the 20's or even teens on systems would generate some real complaints I imagine.

Haha, I have G71 (7900GT)... Even if I lose 50% on 1920x1200 (which I doubt) its totaly OK! Now I have 60. This is all my monitor can handle

Try SH3 in 1600x1200 with 4x 4x -> Runs smooth as silk and beautiful!

Its 2007! Give people the choice in Resolution. Not everyone is running 1024x768!

Chosing Resolution does not ORDER you to use more than today. It gives you the choice...

The jaggies are not a bug, they're a feature!

More resolution can be too hardware demanding but perhaps high end cards can handle this

i´m in sh3 with 15 fps outside and 10 fps with external camera and is perfectly playable

Jaggies help cut through sub nets. Helps you sneak into ports better.

Actually, although it makes no visual difference at all, I found that having AA turned on in the ATI control centre does actually hamper performance.

I wouldn't say that. http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/7439/screenshottn9.jpg (http://imageshack.us) The only thing off in the shot is post processing effects, 53 FPS leaves me with quite a bit of room for AA. I could easily give up 25% and still be at 40 fps and my system, while good, isn't exactly top of the line.

Are you saying 1024x768 is max resolution SH4 supports at the moment? I really want to go buy this game but every day I come here and find new reasons not too.

Has anyone done a poll yet: SH4, buy it or forget it? (for now)

It looks fine in 1024x768...what is with all you folks that think this is some horrible sin to play in that resolution? Sure it would be nice to have higher but come on, play the game as it is.

Being locked to 1024x768 was kind of silly when SH3 came out. At this point in the game it just completely crazy. I don't understand why they would go through all the trouble to scale the GUI to the widescreen super resolutions, but not the game....

At least add native support for a widescreen res and allow AA/AF. That would fix it up for me.

Maybe the question is you haven't played ever with all filters on (FSAA x8 or x16 mainly) or with high resolutions. You should see how SH3 runs on my system. When I play SH4 in the same PC, my eyes cry. Damn jaggies!

Only compare your SH4 with these:

Clean and defined lines, no jaggies, no blurry, all nice. Later I go to SH4 and... well, you know.

Some of us actually have high-end video cards in our system and so want to see quality graphics above 1024x768 without the ugly jagged edges. This is 2007, not the early 90s.

Yeah, that is fine. I have a pretty good card too. But IT STILL LOOKS GOOD AT 1024x768. I dont even notice these minute little jaggie flaws...I'm too busy actually playing the game. I hope they do fix it but even if they dont, I am still going to enjoy the heck out of the game even if it's at 1024x768.

wide screen monitors are increasing in use..so 1024 X 768 just looks wrong after wide screen viewing....so if you have WS of course your perspective on this issue will differ:hmm:

That's ok if you're using a 14 inch screen.

I have a 27" and honestly it looks awful. The jaggies are huge (relatively) Most 19" screens, however, run at a max of 1280x1024. 1024x768 is only one notch down so I would probably say the same as you on that size of screen. People running on large TVs 32"+ will have by far the worst issues tho!

I am fairly fussy about graphics and the resolution/aa issue has stopped me playing SH4 currently. It's just too frustrating knowing what it COULD/WILL look like.

Fingers are currently crossed (and everthing else) for res fix and AA in patch 1.2.

I remember when SH3 was released at a "Locked" resolution. When queeried about higher resolutions a developer said "Not possible, Its not going to happen" (paraphrased).

It was about 4 or 5 days later someone figured out how to force higher resolutions.

My first thought on reading this thread was... Where the hell has he been ? This topic is nothing new.

The game looks and runs good on my system. Im having fun with it. All this fuss over "jaggies" I just dont get it.

Easy for you - I have a 24" widescreen LCD.

Native for me is 1920x1200.

Exactly, my 20" lcd has a 1600x1200 native resolution, a far cry from 1024x768............
