I've accidently clipped points off of land by charting a course and not being zoomed in enough. I belive that in SHIII, it would drop you out of time compression when you get too close to a land mass. Is this a bug with SHIV? BTW, I realize that it is my stupidity, but giving me some warning would be nice since it is really a "view" issue with the zoom function not showing all detail at wide angle. Thanks.

Been there, done that, got the insurance claim:oops:. In fact, I did the same thing last night. It did not slow down the TC. I also did this in SH3. TC did not slow down. Hell, on the map it looked like clear sailing until I zoomed in. Sub sank.....new career for me.
IRL Trigger ran on a coral reef and got stuck for a few hours. Another sub hit a reef and was abandoned....I do not recall that subs name at the moment.

SH3 does indeed drop TC down to 4 I belive if you come within close proximity of land or the bottom.
Problem is its usually too late you drop out of TC to hear screeching and banging and "were taking damage".

I did that in my first career, ended up sitting by the island for a couple days to shore up the bulkheads and fix the damages before limping back home with the bow a little low in the water.
Always hard to explain at the Board of Inquiry.

I was taken out of TC by the message 'We're in shallow water'. When I went to the bridge I realized that i was heading toward the beach at 13kts. I went back emergency, but still ran aground and damaged my pressure hull.

Ditto for me.. some islands seem to be marked by what becomes almost an X on map.. others disappear into nothingness, until you hit them.. at which time they seem quite real again.. my last patrol I was lucky.. I was going slow to preserve fuel, having been re-routed to Fremantle after the fall of Java... no damage at all.. just washed ashore.. or, as I told the crew.. a quick R&R before continuing the war.. all part of the plan you know! :D

I ran into a tiny island in SH3 on high tc,by the time I hit the pause and got back to "1" my entire crew was dead.
So no...SH3 didn't always warn you when you were close to land...in fact I never got a warning the three times I ran aground in that game.
