Not a surprise to many I'm sure. Nevertheless, an post from an Ubi Community Manager over on the official SH4 forums here (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/6421019045/m/2911061745).
Just to let everyone know the Dev team is hard at work on patch 1.2. Expect a release date and list of fixes as soon as I get them.
Huh? Wasnt it released just yesterday?

Maybe one of the powers that be could remove Dowly's April 1st announcement to avoid more confusion? Just a Thought...:hmm:

Good news indeed, lets hope its not too long before its released eh?
I for one are looking forward to the manual TDC speed calculation bug to be fixed:yep:
Maybe in a future patch they should make it so the game is completly disabled to those who have an illegal copy of the game that should make em whine. :yep:

Two weeks, be sure:yep:

I woud prefer they focus on making the game completely bug-free and working as intended for those who do have a legit copy... ;)
I'm even ready to wait a full month before any patch if it allows the devs correct problems and test everything out!

It'd be great if they would put up their 1.2 candidate for a week or so long public beta test. With the inevitable slowdown in the post-release development, it'd be nice to know that we'll get a patch that dosen't create new, serious issues (ala 1.3 in SH3)

Public beta doesn't really work. You end up with too many redundant bug reports...features reported as bugs...wait...we got that now.....:rotfl:

I expect this patch released this week. There is no excuse to keep us waiting while there are number of major problems with current version. Fix most important problems, and plan to fix more in another patch.
Take example from C&C3 developers.
But, this is good news, I am glad we finally have some word from official source.

I see alot of complaining ahead along the lines of "wuttt why didn't they fix this and this and this, its still not working".:88)
That being said, very nice that the dev team is working quite hard indeed.

Sure there is.
How about they want to fix as many things as they can without breaking other things?
How about they want to make sure it is properly tested and evaluated?
How about it takes time to do something correctly?
But I'm sure they are holding it back just to annoy you.

Maybe..just..maybe..
We should have some faith? 1.1 DID fix significant issues. At least this Dev team actually is supporting the product. Too many teams give the atitude of "We're working on it" "We wont give any details AT ALL until we're damn good and ready".
The BlackShark addon for Lock On: Modern Air Combat is something like that. The dev team wont give any details, and wont discuss any real issues.

Problem is there are number of unnacceptable critical bugs in the game. While you may think many people who bought SH4 know or do read forums to find out why their game crash, they simply use update launcher to update their game but find that the patch doesnt fix those critical bugs. I think its in best interest to fix those issues as soon as possible in interest of larger number of people.
However, if UBI is going to limit how many patches will be "allowed" to be released for SH4, then in that case sure take as much time as you want, I want as many fixes as possible. But in best interest of customers a quick fix for major crash issues should be out asap followed with another patch.
BUT yes you have valid points about taking time to test it before its released, after all 1.1 was released and introduced button "a" crash. I understand need for testing and obviously there is need for it. I hope they have nice number of people in community whom they can use to beta test it.

FSAA, widescreen/higher resolutions, fix the environmental bugs, and fix the CTDs.
That in a nutshell would be awesome...however the download might be pushing 300 megs...for a patch...
Get the majority of the big things done and over with, then concentrate on the littler bugs (repeating missions, stuff like that).
Appease the bigger crowds then while they're immersed in the game again, get the smaller stuff done.
Tis what they should do...but we can hope :)
I'll be glad if only one of those things are fixed. The Dev team is hammering out the patches as fast and as safe as they can. But SH4 is still one of the best games I've ever played!
Keep up the awesome work!

SH4 went gold around March 2nd. Release of the first patch was on March 22nd. I wouldn't expect the patch for another 2 or 3 weeks.
Demanding and expecting it won't make it go any faster. They're aware of the issues and are working on them. One thing these developers have done is proven that they listen to the community!

Can't use that timeline as example since you can't release a patch before the game is out so using timeline from gold to release is not very good idea. But if they did have 2-3 weeks tell me how can you miss a crash when you press "A" button during testing? If they need some testers I am sure there are number of respected people in SH community who can help them out.

I never ever use the "A" key. I click manually on the depth gauge to change depths and mainly use the "p" and "s" keys. Not saying that have an "instant exit to windows" key is acceptable, but I can see how it might have been overlooked.

There are two patches that I am waiting:
SH4 1.2 and
EU3 1.2
Which developer team shall win this contest of speed and endurance...?

It's hard to understand how any testing regime wouldn't pretty quickly press each of the declared control keys defined in the docs. Heck, pushing each key on a standard keyboard during play ought to be right up there on the testing plan.

Which developer team shall win this contest of speed and endurance...? In fairness, Paradox has been working on 1.2 for some time now (well before SH4 was released). That said, I can safely say you should be quite happy with EU3's 1.2--it works well and has a very exhaustive and impressive changelog. It really is a whole new game now (much improved). A hearty kudos to Johan and the EU3 team.

Simple. It wasn't there before 1.1 and they had no reason to expect that 1.1 would create that issue. Also, I've played SH3 extensively and SH4 for the short time it's been available and I have never used that button in either game.

Oi how did you get EU 3 1.2 ? Is it out yet?
Anyways I wish Ubi was as loving and caring with its patching as Paradox is. They seldom leave a game to flounder like Ubi has for a bad habit. Let us hope that enough fixes are made with SHIV 1.02 so that we aren't left in the situation that was the case with SH3.

EU 3 1.2 patch isn't out yet, but we are waiting...
Damn, I have too many different games to play. And some manga to read and anime to watch... *Cries out loud* I don't have time for everything!

I for one am putting SHIV aside for now until the 1.2 patch is released.
I am NOT at all sorry I purchased and I do believe that the more annoying show stoppers will be addressed and that - in the end - this will turn into the great sim that it has the potential to be.
My game time is very limited between work and my family and I just can't afford to spend it on a product that needs so much work in its present state.
It's hard to understand how any testing regime wouldn't pretty quickly press each of the declared control keys defined in the docs. Heck, pushing each key on a standard keyboard during play ought to be right up there on the testing plan.
My guess is that they didn't miss it. It was right there in front of them, got reported, but the devs didn't have time to fix it. As with most releases the major bugs were probably reported by testers but never acted upon by the devs. That's the nature of software development I'm afraid.

I finally bought it. Got a fight with my girlfriend about the amount of money I was going to spend and I've won it. But when playing it I found out it was really crap. Even with the patch. So I just wait for the 1.2 patch patiencely.:yep:

Well, because when you get right down to it, pressing all the keys on the keyboard is a pretty simple and obvious test to make with any software - especially when that bug is caused by a key users are meant to press during the game.
Yes most of us won't use it probably, but it is still a surprisingly poor example of pre-release testing.... I'm sure all sorts of much cleverer things were tested and fixed along the way, but this is a really, really stupid error that (to me at least) says 'we rushed this out the door'.
If I had to guess I'd say (looking on the bright side) that the devs knew the 1.0 was a bodge, but were under pressure to deliver and so they did the dastardly deed. Knowing that the bodge would keep UBI happy right up to the first cartload of manure hitting the online forum fan the devs then worked furiously to compile 1.1, and I wouldn't be surprised to find that this was done without UBI knowing about it, in their own time. 1.1 addresses some issues, sadly it's a rush job so it introduced a few new problems, now UBI realise a patch to 1.2 (+?) will be essential to avoid a complete PR meltdown so the devs get to fix the bugs on payroll time.
Bet I'm not that far off reality. I'm an optimist - I think the devs DO want to turn a decent program out, I'm just a little worried that UBI will call a halt when the majority are satisfied, leaving some things that the purists (history buffs) will still cringe at. Luckily the modders will fix that stuff :D
