That's the boat that I qualified on so you can see that I go back a ways. Anyway I haven't played a good sub sim since Red Storm Rising and I have tried many of them. It seems as the more complex they became the more bugs were in them. Is SH IV just an arcade shooter disguised as a sim? I just built a great new computer around an Intel E6600 and the graphics look great but is the realism there? I just can't understand the crew management thing, I was hoping that would be gone in this version. I'm just not into the "silly stuff".

I see many negative reports and a patch out already. An early patch can always be looked on in two different ways. I have a copy that I just got tonight but have not opened yet as I am going to have a little minor surgery Monday. I'll check back in a couple of days and take it from there. Thanks.

It's a fun game. But you have to be prepared to look past the bugs until they get them fixed, because frankly, there are many...

I have never played any of the Silent Hunter series before, nor have I played any sub simulator games...SH4 is the first...and my god...it's everything and anything I've wanted in a game.

I've always wanted to be in command of a warship...I play all of those regular RTS games, like HW2 and Nexus: the Jupitor incident. They were good for tactics and stuff...but you never got to feel anything that the crew experiences...

SH4 on the other hand, you are in control. It's like Star Trek Bridge commander, but without the suck! Yes there are bugs. But if you play through them/with them, it adds to everything. The TBT and TDC is off? Well the US had a heck of a time with Torps in the beginning of the war, it's just something you have to work with, like the captains of the real subs did.

I'm having a blast with SH4 and I don't see things letting up yet! And I'm coming from a background of playing mostly WW2 based games, Call of duty, Day of Defeat, that sort of thing. SH4 fills in the niche for a WW2 naval combat simulator.

And yes, I'm still playing on Easy...haven't had the nerve to go to full realism yet...but it is tempting...
