My PC can run it, but real sloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow. But I expected that cause my system is under spec. Guess I need to ask dad for some additional cash :D

My PC can obviously run it (no surprise there) but my laptop seems to be missing some very much needed video memory and shader version (again, no surprise). A bit of a shame though, cause SHIV is the kind of game one could easily play while stretched on the couch ... :smug:

As I havn't bought SH4 yet I was curious and tried the test. My computer failed, no surprise. However, anyone trying this test needs to read the results carefully. This computer failed in two areas according to the test. Cpu I knew, I have 700 something and will upgrade to 1.7 something. However, the video card failed, hmmm. The test said I failed but reading a little further down the screen I see that 128 mb is minimum and it said I have 256! And, so it seems in reality I am above minimum. Maybe UBI needs to have a patch for this test, but only after they continue working on SH4 of course.

Von Hinten,I couldn't agree more!!SHIII & IV are great to play where you can have some mobility and playing while doing something else like reading a book or enjoying a ballgame, then when the action starts you can turn your full atention to the high seas!!!:D SHIII runs great on my laptop with all the bells and whistles,SHIV has to be turned down to min.but it's still playable. My video card failed the test[ATI xpress 200]everything else passed. Is it possible to update/change a laptop video card?

After I have it back and upgraded, it should be okay.

Well my rig was BUILT for this game....plus Oblivion And it rips them to shreds.....
Will not be upgrading for awhile.....although on the test it looked like my OP system just made it past the mark....Windows XP Pro SP2...Weird I guess this game will run much better on Vista once DX10 is availiable as it is backward compat with DX9 games...But I hear Vista is still very buggy and SP1 is just around the corner. Plus there are issues with administrator rights with Vista over on the Oblivion forums when using mod enablers...
Is anyone running Vista with SH4...and how does it go....???

can never run those programs because it just never loads the addon i need:x

Well, My system fail too but only because of my Graphics card but everything else passed with flying colors :D
Just for kicks, I thought I'd try to install it anyway and it actually ran fine on low settings. I even get the transparent water  . Plays a little to slow on medium setting.
As for my Graphics Card, it's none other then the GeForce 5700 LE with 256mb.
System Specs:
Amd Athlon 64 4000+ (2.4 Ghz)
CPU Speed
Minimum: 2 GHz
You Have: 2.45 GHz Performance Rated at 4.00 GHz
1 GB DDR 400 RAM (soon to be 2 GB)
GeForce 5700 LE with 256mb
Kingwin Water Cooler System attached to CPU & GPU
Just waiting to win a bid on eBay for a new Graphics Card. Hoping to get a GeForce 7600 or 7800 cheap

I forgot about that online prog! Thanks for the link. The only thing that didn't pass the min requirement was the vid card, which is a ATI Mobility Radeon 9600/9700 series.. but it does have 128 MB of ram. I also found out my laptop has 2 processors LOL (its a 3 yr old alienware laptop).. and I didn't know that. If I can run the game at min for now until I get a new desktop I will be happy. Maybe I can update my vid card drivers while I am at it. I wonder if I can put in a new vid card in my laptop, add more ram (I have 1 gig now).. I have a pent 4 3.20 Ghz processor.
I am still not sure if I want to go with Vista or stick with XP on my new rig... I know vista is going to be the future but its kind of unstable right now for games.. hummm:hmm:

LMAO Says I fail because I don't have a DVD drive. Wonder what that thing in the top of my tower that I used to install the game is called then?? :hmm:
Aparrently only thing keeping me from recommended is that I have 1Gb of Ram. Other than that all good.

I'm running it on Vista 32, with everything turned on except Environment and it runs smooth as silk. But if I turn on the environment thingy then the cube bug in it causes massive slow down. Saying that I hate most of the effects and have most turned off.

Not all 256 video cards are the same. My integrated crapola passed all the video test requirements but was still rated as failed video and failed over-all. This was completly accuarte becuase I couldnt play it worth a damn till I upgraded cards. Upgraded my video card an now I play it real smooth and have high passing grade.
Mine passes except the ram (I have 1 gig), video passes with flying colors but it's a piece of crap ATI X700 256 (not even a pro), & I know this is the main problem!:)

No, not that I know off. And it would probably cut a huge hole in my budget anyway. The website did mention something on updating the video drivers so I'll have a go at that tonight.
One other solution is to hook the PC up to the TV and enjoy SHIV in widescreen on that same couch, which, if you have that possibility, you should definitely try at least once.
Another option is what I do now: run SHIV on my gaming PC and do some reading and internet surfing on the laptop.

SH4 runs smooth for me. Not a single CTD so far, no slowdowns or choppy graphics. Average FPS in the 30s in almost every situation. Enjoying the sim quite a bit! :D :D :D Waiting for the patch to solve the most annoying bugs. Otherwise, great one!

AMD X2 6000+
Asus M2N32 SLi N590
4GB PC6400 (DDR2 800)
Dual 8800GTXs in SLi
Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty
150GB 10K Raptor w/500GB Backup
Antec TX1050B Case w/850W Coolmax PSU
Windows Vista 32/64 Dual Boot
Yeah, but it is a drop dead gorgeous and uberfast system!!!
One of the fastest around.
Though I don't see any need to upgrade my X2 4200+ 4GB DDR2 6400
2 x WD Raptor 10K 36GB
ASUS M2N32SLI-Deluxe
ASUS GeForcce 7900GT TOP
2 x 250GB Seagate
Windows XP SP1 (no SP2 to me :D!!)
So basically the same only yours is a lot more advanced.
Funny fact BTW, a friend of mine has:
AMD Athlon XP 3000+
2GB DDR 400 PC 3200
Ordinairy 120GB IDE 7200RPM
Leadtek GeForce FX5900 Ultra 256Mb
In other words, old system. But it runs like a charm.
Even passes reccomended test. :D

I guess I can pretty much be called poster boy for minimum specs.
AMD Athlon 2400+ (2 gig) at 266 FSB.
1 Gig of Corsair Value select PC 2100 DDR Ram at 266 FSB.
ATI Radeon 9600XT with 256 MB video ram. DX 9 compatable.
M7VIG Pro Motherboard with VIA onboard sound chip. AC 97 codec.
Windows XP SP2. No apps running in background with 17 processes running reserving 128 mb of Ram. I have virtual memory on a separate disk blocked at 3000 min & max. My box has enough fans to be used as a hovercraft. My power supply is an Antec true power 380 watt.
The game runs on 1027 x 768 at 75 hz. I have an old Viewsonic 17 inch p 70f.
In game, I use the default low setting adjusted a bit. I check 2 graphics boxes pertaining to ships and I have the ship damage turned up all the way.
Particle density is set one off the lowest.
At these settings, the game is playable. Looking thru the scope I get high teens to low 20s at max zoom. Zoomed out high 20s. The game jerks below 10 FPS during big explosions. I get the slow mouse when I am at the scope and it is on max zoom. It may be corrected by adding more memory. The event camera also hits the game hard. Have the event camera on while at the scope and it will go below 10. The sound works fine with hardware sound set to basic in dx diag.
One thing I noticed after I installed the game is the empty partition I installed it on became fragged big time. It might be because my partitions are fat 32 and not NTFS or maybe just the game installed funky.
Anyways: That’s my story and I am sticking to it!:D

Finally i´ve bought SH4 for 18 euros (really a bargain) ,at least i can mess and digg in the game files now.
i tried it in my system, a 2400+ with a 6600GT and 1GB ddr400, and as i suspected it don´t run well.
in Pearl Harbour in the dock with everything out, 1.0 version, hdisk fragmented, and some little background programs.

Tower 21
Interior 21
External 21
Map 36
Uzo 27
for compare things in sh3 Gw in port i have 15,20,10,30,7
The mouse is a bit laggy sometimes but not unplayable, also it´s not and action game as quake, so i can live with it. but it would be nice if dev team optimize more the engine.
Now i´m looking in the files to see if i can ridd off the placton of the water,
also there are a lot of interesting files, perhaps not related with performance but yes whith graphics, like filters/shaders/textures folders.

Build it ? In many countries that is a good way to make sure your pc will be more expensive. When ever I read about a good system and check what the various parts cost in the store I always end up with a total price that is higher then the assembled PC in the shop ?!?!?!
And of course many people do not see the fun in building your own rig, or simply do not have the time or skill.
ReallyDedPoet

Build it ?
The problem sometimes with store-bought PCs is that on the surface you may be getting a kick-ass system for the price, however when you ask some questions, or do some research you realize that internally it is not what you want. Ram capabilities, motherbaord not supporting dual-core or quad core processors, overclocking capabilities, future upgrades, that sort of thing.
Plus you can avoid Vista as well, but still build something you know will run it in the future.
A member on this forum helped me to build my current system.
I have a 2002 Emachine
AMD Athelon 64 3200+
1.99 Ghz 512MB of Ram
RAdeon x700 Graphics Card 8.351.0.0 Driver Version
Playing the game at medium graphics settings with the light shaft and Envir eff boxes also checked. Have no delays or lags at all changing screens, etc. When I had it on full bore with everything checked I had a 5-10 delay and then a little lagging for another 30 secs each time i would change screens.
The check program here said I failed even minimal and couldnt play the game so I wouldnt put full confidence in it myself.
Anyway look forward to talking with you all more, good hunting!!! :sunny:

I actually tried running it on an FX5200,heh.(Well...when I ordered it they were still claiming the game would work with the FX series...so I took a chance).
Funny thing was that I could sort of play the missions...took patience though, but When starting a campaign I never made it out of the dock...framerate was like 1/3 FPS...hahaha.
I'm not disappointed though. I knew my rig probably wouldn't be able to handle the game. I have no plans on upgrading this pc though...no PCIX slots...a 250w power supply...and nearly 4 years old. What amazes me is how well it runs games like MT2W and WoW...so far I've only had trouble with NWN2 and SH4. (Funny how those two both use securrom).
I do intend on buying a new pc this summer...probably dual-core with 2 gigs of RAM and with at least an Nividia 7100 card. IF my financial situation stabilizes...blah.

Hi there m8s!!
Well pretty happy right now... I just change parts of my computer and now I CAN PLAY THE GAME in the way I want...
first I want to thanks "KevinM" and "Linavitch" for their help in testing some parts of the game, thanks to those test I finally buy the new stuff  thanks guys
lets see:
before:
SEMPRON 2800+ @ 1999 mhz (don´t reach 2000 sorry LOL) (old 472 socket)
ASUS A78VX-X
EVGA 7800GS OC (430-1300)
1,5 GB DDR1 RAM @ 333
HD 2 x 80 GB (IDE 133)
WINXP SP2
NOW:
CORE2DUO E6600 @ 2,4 ghz (new stuff)
ASROCK 4CORE-VSTA DUAL (new stuff)
EVGA 7800GS OC (430-1300)
1,5 GB DDR1 RAM @ 333
HD 2 x 80 GB (IDE 133)
WINXP SP2
benchmarks: (all options ON,1024x768)
At Pearl port 1941 start of campaign... (take note that Pearl is one of the most CPU+GPU intensive parts fo the game...)
before : inside sub.......: 20 FPS
F5 bridge view.: 10-14 FPS
free cam........: 8-10 FPS
now (same situation) :
inside sub........: 60/100 FPS (and no problems at 1024 TC!)
F5 bridge view..: 25 FPS (those 11 more really counts!)
free cam..........: 25/28 FPS great
and if I turn off the "monolith of death a 2001 space odyssey in game" :rotfl: (aka Env effects :know:) the 25 goes to 30/33 FPS... nice! (hope they will add more performance in next patch to that specific nice water effect and fix the monolith and quite invisible crew...)
(hey! pretty the same as you Linavitch! same mother+CPU, yeah!! I think a lot in your benchmark when I first enter the game... believe me really a high tension moment here!! hehe then after ctrl-F8 : WE DID IT )
So I´m very happy with my PC right now... in other parts of the game like nav school or free ocean (under campaign) things are super smooth for my eyes (30 FPS and up is fine with this type of game...and the human eye don´t see much difference after those numbers...) (but I still want AA please!!! :damn:)
I can also play oblivion very well (even on cities) and SHIII with Grey Wolves is other game here... in ports much more FPS before was a slide show...company of heroes also super nice, you was right Linavitch core2duo was the move to do (in my $ sytuation)... and with this VSTA mother I can use all the stuff I have here... so if you are with a AGP system and a low CPU have all this in mind for an quite low $$$ upgrade of your system... any help I´m here.
uff!! this was llloonnggg
well thanks for reading and time to play now! :arrgh!:
I had similar results to surfnsun in that I was over spec. The dvd rom failed with min spec of 4x and it's 40x. I had a DVD disk in the drive for it to read.

Yes , sometimes is difficult upgrade old systems, because you can create a bottleneck very easily
i´m going to stay with my actual configuration unless i found an used or cheap card for my old computer and in 6 months build a new system from scratch, except the tower and the 550w power supply.
SH4 have to be patched a lot in the next months, and modded , so i´m using more sh3 than sh4 now.

I'm back to playing SH3 till I purchase a new pc. I don't mind the wait though,by the time I do get a new pc games like SH4 and NWN2 will have had a few more patches and will hopefully be the games they were meant to be.
In the meantime I may look around to see if there are any older games that I may have missed that i might have an interest in.

trust me your good, I used to run it on windows xp with a Pentium 4 with a fx5600 video card with 256mb ram and 2gb of system ram. it was slow so I bought a gt8800 with 512mb ram and it ran great after that
whatever the game specs say , the cpu info is accurate but you actually need double the ram and double the video card to run it without slow fps when there is a lot going on like a big battle.
