View Full Version : Ranting patch released
TDK1044
04-01-07, 12:52 PM
This patch resets the flag on any Forum ranter and installs clear thinking software so that Forum harmony is restored. It's quite a large patch for the very few who need it. It can be found at idratherrantthanthink.com

Wouldn't that hypothetically remove this thread, since it's a rant about rants on this forum?:hmm:

It serves absolutely no purpose, and just brings down all of the people who are enjoying this magnificent simulation. I personally could give about 1/10 of a rat's a@@ whether or not a bug or two is enough to ruin the experience for you. If that is the case, you must have a heck of a time operating in the real world, particularly as the world is today.
I personally think the development team did an outstanding job. There is no such thing as a new sim without some bugs, and even some major ones. I have been an IL2 devotee from day 1 and it still has some stuff that could be improved on, in spite of the fact that it has sold millions of copies and was recently named as one of the 25 greatest computer games of all time.
Therefore, in the future, please keep your mental diarrhea to youself.
At ease. Dismissed.
Ubi fills the market for this sort of thing. If another better group of guys wanted to break into this market they have to go against the SH-series. But if Ubi could be forced out or put out of business, that would open the market for other companies - who might just do a better job. Take your games back to the stores - and even if they will not take them back (though in America some will) then at least complain to the store that the game is a wreck. That you are very unhappy.
Silent Hunter 3 made enough money to justify Silent Hunter 4.....just! If Silent Hunter 4 fails to meet its sales target, then you can forget Ubisoft producing another sub sim any time soon.
Is that such a bad thing? Ubi are hardly setting the simulation world on fire.
You see, I think some people are getting the cart before the horse - complaints don't make the game poor quality, the game is poor quality and therefore there are complaints.
There is a point where having a poor quality game is worse than no game at all and game history is littered with games that would have been better just being locked away. The subsim genre has had a good run when you think about it - perhaps more than it deserves given the subject matter. The genre can claim a number of classic games that really explored the subject in detail far greater than most home users could reasonably expect.
To have the "waters" sullied by lacklustre releases from companies that don't really care about it - well, that's a sad epithet to have.
I vaguely remember something about supply and demand, sounds like a workable concept. There's only enough demand for one sub sim to be commercially viable in the PC games market, and Ubisoft are providing it, but if there was a hole in the market for such a thing (a hole left by Ubi disappearing into the depths) then who knows who might try and get something together.
Anyway, Sh4 is here and we just have to make the best of it. Time for moaning and groaning was a year or 14 months ago.

Posting your concerns about the bugs is all well and good, but making loads of threads dedicated to bashing the game and dev team is utterly worthless.

Harsh words, but I agree. Constructive criticism, yes! Wanna rant endlessly? Please go away.

If you only give "1/10 of a rats ass" why start a new thread about it?
The posts would dissappear quickly if people didn't keep bumping them. Often it's the moderators and others telling people they disagree that keeps them bumped!
Ignore, and they'll die down and go away.

While I share the same feeling that is is a lot of these repeat, useless threads. While one stickied thread should be enough, Some people's complaint of the obvious and already mentioned bugs is superfluous. What I find even more shocking is the people who fail to ingore those threads, then create their own thread bashing those who claim a bug has turned them off the game.
One can easily indentify a frustrated Forumites thread as it clearly states in the title(much like yours) and then leaves nothing to be explained except opinion as you have already stated your opinion in the first line.
you claim you only give "1/10 a rat's ass" but that is fraction and not a number so you this rat's ass may be 1'000'000 times that of a normal rat's ass, and given you feel compelled to write a thread about expressing your opinion that you do not care about the frustrations of the game, but rather those who feel frustration due to the game seems hypocritical from anyone's viewpoint, whether or not they enjoy the game as a whole.
As for bugs. I've stated numerous times. Most will be fixed in forthcoming patch(es) so whining about it will not make it come out ANY faster. But, that is not where the problem lies for most people who are fans of the Silent Hunter series.

Its enough already. This is to all those out there who feel its necessary to come and tell us "Im shelving SHIV" and "Im going back to SHIII" and "Damn UBI sucks why'd they release this buggy game, I hate it."
You are getting annoying.:damn: If you dont like the game thats fine. We dont need to know... Weve heard your complaint. Ubi's heard your complaint if you don't want to play it by all means don't. You not going to hurt our feelings by not playing. Now if you have some thing usefull to say such a bug that hasn't been reported, a fix to a bug, etc.. by all means post it.
To everyone else, Sorry for the rant had to get that off.

Frist we get the multitude of repeated rant threads, and now to combat that we get the "ranting because of rants" thread.
You just added another gear to this cycle of redundancy; Thanks..

well to my defence when i put mine up this thread woasnt here so sorry. i guess my self and the author were on the same wave length at the same time. i appologize for the unitended redundancy
To flame the flamers will only make the flamers retort with flame.:88)
Look, life at subsim, well in the SH4 world of subsim is getting tedious I agree. By adding to this post it adds a little more tedium to all our tedious rants.
Lets all agree to dowse the flames, move on and look toward fixing this game. Yes ubi sucked and yes the devs are not blameless for this, or whatever you think, ubi is great for giving us sh4 on target at all and the devs are pure godlike for at least half finishing the game...it just doesnt matter anymore.
Whatever your "side" lets all start to work together by constructively adding to the forum, rather than this mass off flames from both sides.
I also think moderators should start to moderate, in particular thier own posts because I have seen one or two which have inflamed rather than softened a vigourous debate!

Well the mods are only human and must be going out of there minds from the number of new people to these boards a percentage of whom(*sp) seem to have registered to do nothing other then complain about how there not going to play any more and yadda yadda yadda.
I think we need to sticky a topic titled: You Dont Like It? We DONT Care.
Oh one more thing, the out of sight out of mind only works till the next whiner comes in and tortures us with his "Unique View".

Complaining about complaining. A little childish but hey, to each his own.

Actualy i think its complaining about complainers complaining.:know:

Yes I can understand that. But as one poster here said, if the people who dont like the game post, only replying to that post actually feeds that debate. The OP then feels that his point has merit and hence the dance continues. Best way to deal with those is to ignore and they die off naturally.
I like the bug post, but I also like when people post bugs in the forum, then I can easily follow any advice or feel better if someone else has an issue same as me. What is disrespectful is when people jump on those threads with their opinions (either way) which do not benefit the post. Makes you wish you had mod rights to just delete those that do not contribute to the OT:lol:
