my patrol grid is simply labeled africa but it doesnt specify where abouts in africa. so how does this work, i presume u dont have to complete the "patrol for 24 hours" mission is this correct?

and wheres the best place to find targets? i wouldnt mind havin a pop at some capitol ships.

Go whereever you please, you can't complete a patrol in those seas, since there is no real grids.

And I have no idea where the aussies are hiding their ships. I never seems to find them.....:damn:

the nice thing about Pengang is that there is no renown for going to a patrol area for a set time so it all depends on your ability to find and sink ships. You can find nice convoys around Capetown, and in the Timor Sea near Darwin. There are also singles and convoys going up and down both the Australian coasts.

I found a US sub in the Sunda straight but the weather was too bad to do an attack.

so apart from s africa there aint much goin on right? is there US trafic philipines etc? does this mod take into account the pacific war so patrolin around US bases might throw up US ships?

From the GWX manual's TOC, this is some of "what is going on" down there...

-RAN Task Force 74 operations
-Operations Jaywick and Rimau
-Japanese Reconnaissance of Australia
-The Destruction of the Brake and the Charlotte Schliemann
-Operation Diplomat
-Operation Cockpit
-Operation Crimson
-Australian minesweeping and ASW operations
-Operation Interlude
-Operation King II
-Operations Lightning and Matador
-Operations Meridian I and Meridian II

The attack on Morotai and the Phillipines is scripted in GWX, but under certain limitations which are outlined in the manual.

Re merchant shipping - it's not hard to find. Sure, you could plough through the vast Indian Ocean hoping to fluke a convoy, but why not just hang around one of the ports and get it coming in or going out? Or if you're really lazy, why not test the level of RAN protection and perhaps take on the Australian coastal routes?

Re grid allocation - have a look on page 90 of the GWX manual. It lists the grid references that you can expect to receive in the region and what part of the nav map they relate to. I'm sure you've wondered why your nav map has dotted lines and such on it? Well, this is why. ;)

You can totally ignore the allocated grid without penalty, or you can go where you're told. Choice is yours.
