Hi

I'm trying and pulling my hair out to get either SH3 or SH4 to play on my X60 Tablet from lenovo.

ALL drivers are up to date, it's running Vista Ultimate. 2GB ram, 1.83 Core Duo, 5400 rpm 100Gb drive, and 950 chipset with the latest Intel 945 Graphics drivers.

Both will load up to the main menu - going into any mission in SH3 crashes to desktop, in SH4 the game will load up into the command room, but any attempt to go to the periscope screen or outside views gives a CTD.

In either case I've attempted with ALL graphics options turned off and at their lowest possible values. No diff.

I own the original disks to both, and I've installed, uninstalled and reinstalled each several times.

I'm at a complete loss now.

I know from the specs of my new tablet that is SHOULD run both - SH3 at the very least.

But both ctd.

Please, any suggestions? These two and Sub command are the only games I want to run on this new machine. :(

:damn:

Have you tried setting the affinity to one processor or applying the patch? That is the only thing that I can see. My laptop is almost exactly the same except that I have an ATI video card, and I am not having any trouble playing it. Sorry, I could not be more helpful.

Hi. Thanks for the quick response.

Yeah, I've patched it to 1.1, but what exactly do you mean 'affinity'?

Can you talk me through that?

Thanks

I cana do it captain.. she ain't got the power... :hmm:

But seriously..

I see a couple possible reasons for the "why not's" in your specs.

Minimum system specs state.

- 2 ghz.

your trying to run it on 1.83. even though it is duo, I believe the game was not really designed to take full advantage of the duo processor during its creation.

- Vista.

Again the game was designed when Vista was a concept in development. And Vista still has issues with some graphic card drivers.. " Nvidia fiasco " comes to mind here.
I would venture that this would apply more for SHIII than SH4. but still. XP has sp2 as a patch to the OS.. Vista has not fully matured into a stable and reliable OS, for gaming anyway.. just leaf through a few other game forums and you will see many posts stating. " My game wont run on vista.. what gives? ".

Just for fun.. remove Vista and load XP on your system and try SHIII again.. may be moot. But if your willing to try anything, this may be one attempt.

Just a thought.

Good luck.

CTRL ALT DELETE to bring up your task manager, then go to processes, select SH3 (while its running) and set affinity.

Hi Captain...

I believe the problen lies with your Video configuration. From what you have posted you may be running with a Intel Integrated Graphics setup. If this is the case you more than likely will not be able to run either iteration of SH - they dont support intergrated video.

Sorry Mate...

Ah.. I didn't even see that one audie.. good eye..

I could use a good watchman like yourself for a 2 month mission coming up.

Must be able to stand for hours in the rain, not get seasick, and sing for the crew during down time..

interested? ;)

Thanks again guys...

Affinity didn't work. But nice to know about that now.

As for XP - no can do really - although I may consider dual booting it - one for games the other for work. But that's another 15gb eaten up. Ho hum... Looks like tomorrows gonna be a LONG day...

All this for some virtual subbing...Besides, the game box states vista compatible, and the 1.83 is within the minimum specs.

I guess format reinstall time.

:(

I would have to say it is probably the video card as well if the affinity did nothing. I have a 1.83 core duo set up and am not having problems playing the game unless I use the highest graphic settings. Sorry it didn't work.

Your intel gfx card doesn't support the shaders the game needs to render correctly. You'll never be able to play it on your laptop.
