....game to be fully patched, I've gone into the Editor and set up a cruise starting in San Francisco and just wandering where ever I choose. I got to the Aleutians this morning and ran into a terrific storm and I must say for all its' faults the games graphics can be pretty spectacular.Standing on the bridge I found myself scrolling the mouse wheel to keep my head above water as the waves broke over the conning tower. I,m going to try to get to New York now via Cape Horn.

That should be amusing. I'd be interested in seeing how they model the cape!
(Which would be the only reason to do this, no? Wouldn't the Panama Canal exist? If like the Kiel Canal in Sh3, the locks are absent, you just sail right through.)

I'll look for the Canal on the way down to South America, if it's there p'raps I'll use it.I want to see if the Atlantic is a different colour to the Pacific and other scientific things like that.:yep:

Well, I can confirm, at least as of patch 1.1, that the Panama Canal does NOT exist.
Interestingly, I think it was intended to, or will soon. In the entire stretch of Central America, there are NO cities marked on the map except Colon and Balboa, Panama. No canal between those two cities, though, but you can see where they started putting it in (the 'harbor' from both cities goes quite far inland).

And no Moai on Easter Island, either. :nope: :p

I'll say this for SH4. As far as a pure sailing experience goes it's top notch. I might take a side trip to San Fran myself. Thanks for the tip!

I've continued my tour some...
- Cape Horn is present, and on the map in the right spot. Nothing interesting, though - just generic terrain (with plenty of trees)
- While there, I decided to make a trip to Antarctica. Again, it's nice to see it's actually there, although the 'sawtooth' coast is...weird. Pleasant vacation spot, actually, in June (middle of Southern Hemisphere's winter), my crew were on the deck in their short-sleeves, with seagulls flying about, and not a spot of snow on the continent! To be fair, those massive green fields DID look a touch uninteresting. No beach babes, here! No wonder nobody has built any resorts on the continent yet! :rotfl:
