You are in serious trouble! How does the sub sail with no rudder? Will it turn at all?
Maybe you can rig a sail and throw up a makeshift rudder.

Too bad you can't operate the engines independently. You may have been able to sail your way home using differential thrust.

Given how close together the screws are, I would expect the amount of leverage would be minimal. And trying to maintain a course even harder.

I'd rather just restart the mission.:)

I've been reading a couple book latley, and they used their engines independently all the time. Making quick 180 degree turns they saved allot of time by doing this..
In all reality if they make it possible to lose your rudder they made a big mistake by not allowing to operate the engines each at a time.
My fathers boat ( obviously smaller than a sub :) )
has twin 250's outboards, if you only use one engine you will turn with the quickness, and the props are much closer than a subs.

I'd rather just restart the mission. Yes I suspect most would. A few of the skippers enjoy playing DiD (dead is dead) though. :)

The engines in conjunction with the rudder will be quick, independent of it - especially if it's jammed - is another story entirely.

but the submarine could be manouvered with the engine alone, it was/can/could be done.

I'm not saying it can't, I'm saying it'd take bloody ages to do it and trying to maintain course in anything but perfect conditions would be a nightmare.

So, am I done? doomed to be stranded? Or should I try to ground my boat in China?

yep, there is no way to rtb or get home, its happend to me a few times before.
In addition to the paddle try this for steering:

I know you got your motors but the wind might be easier to steer? :arrgh!:

The USS Grenidier lost her propulsion in a depth charge attack and they tried to rig a sail too. It didn't work but it was worth the try.

Yep, this missing rudder happened to me once.. all the sudden I was heading for an island.. I hit return to course.. nothing.. sat for days trying to repair.. nothing (obviously)... I had to restart the mission.
This is where calling for help or abandoning ship would come in handy... you either are rescued or captured.

I can just see how that would go...
"Excuse me, Herr Kaleun, but can we borrow your rudder?" :D

Use the dive planes to create drag (sb or port) and use that to steer the boat. :sunny:
