It's not a problem
If you rebooot the OS than drivers
do what they have to do
AFAIK, Securom blacklists daemon tools/virtual drives. Then again, I have only heard it happening when someone has tried mounting the game´s image, in this case SH4. Maybe you should contact Ubi and ask for instructions?

No no was a windows problem,
not an Ubisoft or securom one.
Drivers loaded not well.

Okie.
Finally I've got my Silent Hunter IV version (shpped today). I installed it, registered at ubi.com, reboot my PC and tried to launch it, and what I have that message:
http://www.securom.com/message.asp?m=module&c=5024&l=ru
SecuROM™ has determined that a File/Reg Mon program is present is running in the background. Please close this program before you start the application.
Please deactivate it properly (don't forget to unhide virtual drives before exiting). You do not need to uninstall this software; it is enough to disable them during game play. To 'unhide' remaining virtual drives, you might need to re-install the appropriate tool.
Actually I have daemon tools, but as it said here - I disabled it (from menu), reboot again, and I have that error again. Almost 2 years ago I installed trial version of alcohol, but it expired and I uninstalled it. May be problem in it? I don't want to reinstall my windows.
What should I do?
All I can do now - is watch that great bonus DVD movies, but I want an action :-))
If it is needed I can show proof of purchase (it is on the last page of manual, at least it is written so)
Thank you.
I've seen same error a few time.
I just reboot and then i can play.
But what "File and Register Monitoring" program it is referring to?
XP built in TaskManager?
tfw?

Well . . I get a conflict error when my LEGAL copy of Gamejackal is running. Course Securom has now managed to completely shutdown this company so this problem will eventually go away.
For me to solve it . . I simply shutdown Gamejackal and then the game runs fine.
Apparently some friggin "lawyer-scum-ratbag-bastard-asstard" considered Gamejackal to be Pirateware and decided to have the company shutdown. When it was simply a tool to allow a NOCD solution at a reasonable cost. May they all die of "high velocity lead poisoning"!
The bottomline here . . is the latest version of Securom checks for several programs and if they are running it will refuse to operate.

Drop us a list of all your running processes and maybe we can identify it for you. Maybe it's some junk that's preinstalled on your computer, like Norton, who knows. Damn near everything monitors the file system and registry to some degree or other so it would be helpful if the app would tell you which process it doesn't like. But it doesn't so you'll have to figure it out. Start ending processes one by one until it works or your system crashes.

I use Daemon Tools and haven't had any problems running SH4 with Daemon Tools running.
I did have a problem with the game not recognizing my disc when I moved my dvd-rom to the other IDE cable while trying to troubleshoot another issue

As soon as the gamne wont let me start again I usually hit Ctrl+Alt+Del and
check whats goin on, but I havent seen anything out of ordinary.
No Norton for me cuz I think its gotten
too big for its own good. :D

As I know, YASU disables optical drive, and applications see virtual drive like optical, but in my case I have DVD disk (not the image) and I want to start the game.
Well, I will reinstall windows tonight.
As for me - this anti piracy politic is paranoia. Even if you develop super-duper-mega disk protection it will be hacked (I'll bet) int 2, maximum in a week. And this protection system is more headache for normal users than for pirates. But we can't do anything in this case, only we can do - is take it as it is.
So windows will be reinstalled and all be ok.
PS: Sorry, I was wrong about YASU. And it possibly will help. Thank You.

I merely click Daemon Tools and chose Exit before running SHIV. I have no problems, so your issues with Securom must be from some other application.

Easiest solution of them all is to uninstall Daemon Tools, run the game. If it works, download the newest Daemon tools and install it. Now run the game again. It should work.
The latest version of Daemon tools has updated "hiders" against the new Securrom, so it won't be seen and cause any conflict. Of course, if you ARE using a pirated version, then I hope you sink ;)
But, this above worked for me, and I am using a legally bought version. (Collectors even :D Just a bit disappointed with the rec-manual. No Front/45 degree view >.<)

Intersting, if I had pirate version, would I ask how to install it after 2 weeks after release of the game . I guess no.
As I said, I'll try to install YASU or uninstall Daemon Tools, if it will not help - the only way I see - make clear installation of windows. Too said if it is, spend 3 hours for nothing.

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. It started.
Solution is simple as whole in this world - uninstall Daemon Tools and reboot.
Thanks to all.

Ubi got the message about Starforce did it not? The present scheme though not perfect is a big improvement over that POS.
That said I had no clue what Daemon Tools was so I googled it. Gee - I wonder why a company wanting to protect its intellectual property would not want Daemon Tools running on a PC at the same time as its software... :hmm:
