These threads are starting to annoy me, SH3 was no real sim when it was released either. I don't see why everyone is trying trying to stir up some kind of confrontation between SH3 and SH4 players.
I like this post:

Now I just wish people wouldn't get so damn upset over bugs always. It ruins my game twice. First the bugs, then the endless whining over it. It is like when your vacation is ruined by a rainstorm and that obnoxious lady keeps moaning how rain ruined HER holidy. ... Like, STFU.
Still a loyal SH3 player btw. :smug:

i own a copy of SH4 and i love it.
i know that SH3 had a lot of bugs when it was first released but in my opinion SH3 was initially a much better product in its stock first release version than SH4 is in its stock first release version.
that being said - im confident that the modders can turn SH4 into probably the best sub sim out there.
but for now - I have shelved my copy - temporarily of course.

to the real sub simulator !
LOL, im sorry man, but after the experience i just had tonight, the REAL sub simulator wil be SH4. Im serious, this game is practically subsimmers dream come true.
I mean, first of all, theres native support for torpedo troubles. Deep runnning, prematuer detionations and even CIRCULAR RUNNING TORPEDO'S is modled in this game. This last patrol, i swear, the fish were pracitcally blowing up as they left the tubes. Others ran and hit their targets, it was really spot on for the torpedo troubles for the US Navy in WW2.
And then.. oh man.. i was doing a night surface attack, being rather pissed off at the torpedos' so i decided to fire the last 4 fish on board at this freighter i had damaged earlier (and had spent a total of 6 torpedos on trying to sink), and guess what happend? That last fish did NOT run hot, straight and normal. It circled around and hit me right in the engine room.
And speaking of damage.. i mean, come on, lets be realistic here, if your pressure hull was punctured, you ceased to be a submersable. Thats the reality, and its modled in Sh4. The bigger the hole in your pressure hull, the more water that floods in. I think this is going to be the biggest adjustment people will have to make. If the devs intentionally did away with the concept of Hull integrity to introduce a more realistic sub damage model.. well, its working, and that my friends is a REAL sub simulator.
So coming back to Sh3? Not on your life, SH4 has its bugs, but im telling you now, its gonna rock something feirce.

What I don't understand is with the subs being American in SH4 that when you end your game your sub doesnt explode in radiant ball of fire then the remnants of the sub get beamed up into a alien space ship.

I'm relatively new too both SH3 and SH4 having just a couple weeks ago acquired a beast of a computer that can easily run them both (and has a DVD drive - something that kept me from SH3 before). I'm not an expert on historical submarining either.
My gut-take is in line with what seems to be the consensus. SH4 will be the best subsim around given time for patches and modding. It's just so visually stunning (and those who don't get the artistic choices are missing out) and seems to model some elements with much more realism and depth. And it is very playable out of the box. But it is buggy and the interface isn't at all intuitive compared to what we have in SH3 at this point. Worst of all, for my personal tastes, the interaction with the crew is very lacking. I'm hoping all these problems will be fixed by modders and the Romanian gang.
Meantime, it's hard to compete with SHCommander and the GWX enhanced SH3. Not a remotely fair comparision but given I've paid for both and I'm happy about it I've no particular dog in this fight. Just callin' it as I sees it.

Just out of curiousity, a question to the returning masses from SH4 .. as I have no intention of getting SH4, is there a German Language option in it ? :rotfl:
I just wish someone would dredge up the old "Silent Service" from Micropose and bring it up to date to today's standards...THAT would be FUN!

SH4
My main issue with it is, SH3 was released and was in a state till the patches came, so rather than learn from a previous debacle, yet another game is released with more holes in it than a machinegunned U-Boat! LOL
I mean, come on, some people paid a lot of money for special editions and all that, and in the end they get something that is not quite up to par. And have to wait for patches and things... Its a bit inconvenient.

I´m sure SH4 will be a fantastic sub simulator, after some patchs and a lot of mods;) . Meanwhile I continue sinking Tommies in Atlantic.
