View Full Version : 2 GIGs Ram-Did The Trick !!!
I just added another GIG of Dual Channel(PC 3200-DDR-400) RAM(now have 2 GIGS)and what a difference it made ! The game loads much faster, the screens switch instantly from one function to another and when you start a patrol(once the patrol loads) everything is smooth as silk with all the harbor traffic and scenary, I am using easy mode and between medium and high graphics settings. I set my video card for using antialiasing, mipmapping, medium/high quality textures and FSAA(2X), The game graphics are just breathtaking (especially the details of the ships/planes and men + explosions from torpedos) and now the game is great fun and will only get better with more patches and mods.

That is what I need , well apart from a new PC.
my fr is all over the place, as a test I go into Sub School Nav. I'll get the fr jumping in the CR room once its settled somewhere between 25/30+, nav map 35/40 and on the Bridge 20/25. Then in the same map when the same conditions, I will get 20 CT , 30 nav map and 15/19 on the Bridge. And again, same setting, I will get the Bridge down to 4/5.
Its doing my nut in ... When I was getting the CR at 25/30+ and nav map 35/40 and the Bridge 20/25. I would pause the game and go to the graphic setting, the setting I had for the 25/30+ - 35/40 - 20/25 I had all but 2 sliders to the far right, the 2 above gamma I had set in the middle, and I had all the boxes on the right ticked the ones on the left next to the sliders I left alone.
Yet with these same settings I could tick all the boxes left too just to see what it looked like, and doing so did hit the fr that much by 4/5 frames in each place CR NM and Brd.
I would untick all the boxes on the left again and I would get back these frames. then for no reason still dead in the water, and in the CR the frames would drop and when on the bridge they would be down in single figures low single figures.
I just don't get it , they would jump back again later to a higher fr?
But I will invest in another 1Gb of ram, what kind of fr jump did you get adding the extra Gb?

As a comp engineer i gotta say RAM it up!!! if you want more from your games add more RAM simple as that.
Walsh i would advise you take a look at your background processes my friend.

Thanks , I will. I am going to unplug my cable and switch off my NIS to see if that will stop the up's and down's in fr.
But I will be buying more ram.

I shall purchase more RAM after reading this. I only have 1 gig. Well, it still works great, but why have one gig... when you can have two.:D

I have ordered 2 gig of RAM for my computer to boost it up. The more the better, and can only help speed things up. It get's rid of one bottle neck at least!!!
